The new stage adaptation of the 1997 animated film Anastasia arrives on Broadway in March, but BroadwayCon attendees will get an exclusive first look at the musical in January.
Christy Altomare and Derek Klena, who star as Anya and Dmitry, respectively, will preview musical moments from Anastasia as part of BroadwayCon’s First Look showcase, which gives attendees an exclusive preview of the upcoming Broadway season.
Anastasia is the latest musical from the Tony Award-winning songwriting team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime, Once On This Island). It has a book by Tony Award-winning playwright and librettist Terrence McNally (Ragtime, Master Class, Kiss of the Spider Woman). Anastasia will officially open on Broadway April 24, 2017, at the Broadhurst Theatre. Previews begin March 23.
Last year, BroadwayCon’s First Look showcase gave fans an early preview of several new musicals, including Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 and Waitress, which featured a special performance from Sara Bareilles.
BroadwayCon returns January 27–29, 2017, at the Javits Center with an expanded slate of programming.
