Belgian marine company DEME Group NV (EBR:DEME) welcomed offshore installation vessel Green Jade to its fleet at a naming ceremony on Friday at the Kaohsiung shipyard in Taiwan.

The vessel is similar to Orion, which joined DEME’s fleet in the spring of 2022. Green Jade has a 4,000-tonne crane capacity and is capable of transporting multiple jackets and foundation components for next-generation wind turbines.

It is the first offshore installation vessel built in Taiwan and will be deployed by CDWE, the joint venture between Taiwanese shipbuilder CSBC and DEME Offshore, for the installation of offshore wind farms in Taiwan. Green Jade will install jacket foundations for the 298-MW Zhong Neng project as the first of several contracts in its pipeline.

The vessel will support the targets set out in Taiwan's Net-Zero Emissions report for at least 40 to 55 GW offshore wind energy by 2050, the company noted.
