The Yellow Canary Wrasse, also known as the Canary Wrasse or Yellow Coris Wrasse, is a species of marine fish belonging to the family Labridae. Its scientific name is Halichoeres chrysus.

Here are some key characteristics of the Yellow Canary Wrasse:

Appearance: The Yellow Canary Wrasse has a vibrant yellow body with a black spot near the base of its dorsal fin. Juvenile individuals may display additional black spots on their bodies. The fins are elongated and have a yellow to orange coloration.

Size: It can grow up to about 4-5 inches (10-13 cm) in length.

Behavior: Yellow Canary Wrasses are active and playful swimmers. They are known to be relatively peaceful, making them suitable for community aquariums. However, they can sometimes display aggression towards other wrasses or similarly shaped fish. It is recommended to provide ample hiding spots and territories within the aquarium to minimize aggression.

Distribution: This species is native to the Indo-Pacific region, specifically found in the waters of the Maldives, Fiji, Indonesia, and the Great Barrier Reef.

Habitat: Yellow Canary Wrasses inhabit coral reefs, lagoons, and other areas with rocky or sandy substrates. They prefer areas with ample hiding spots, such as crevices or small caves.

Diet: They are carnivorous and feed on small invertebrates, crustaceans, and zooplankton. In aquariums, they can be fed a varied diet consisting of high-quality flake or pellet foods supplemented with frozen or live foods like brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and chopped seafood.

Aquarium Care: To keep a Yellow Canary Wrasse in an aquarium, you'll need a tank with a minimum capacity of 30 gallons (113 liters) or larger. Provide ample hiding spots using live rock or other aquarium decorations. The tank should have a well-established biological filtration system to maintain water quality. They require a sand or fine gravel substrate, as they like to burrow and sleep in the substrate at night.

Overall, the Yellow Canary Wrasse is a beautiful and lively fish that can add vibrant color to a marine aquarium. However, it is important to ensure appropriate tank conditions and tank mates to promote their well-being.
