How to keep Lipstick tangs (Naso lituratus) in a marine aquarium, and care guide.

Lipstick tang (Naso lituratus).

One of the most peaceful Tangs, and one of the smallest Naso Tangs (Naso sp.). Lipstick Tangs are shoaling fish and so are best kept in pairs or small shoals of 2-8. Tangs are all large active fish, so require lots of space, and preferably lots of flow too. Lipstick Tangs should never be kept in tanks under 500 litres, even juveniles. A shoal of adult Lipstick Tangs may eventually need 1,000 litres or more.

Available in a variety of sizes, may eventually reach 15” or more.

Lipstick tang compatibility

Lipstick Tangs rarely bother other fish. They can be kept with small reef fish, or, large predatory fish. Large predatory fish may eat juvenile Lipstick Tangs, but, this is rare. Some other species of Tangs are more aggressive than Lipsticks, so care must be taken if adding juvenile Lipstick Tangs into a tank containing aggressive Tang species. Lipstick tangs (Naso lituratus) should not be kept with Blonde Lipstick tangs (Naso elegans) as they may fight. Lipstick tangs can be kept with all other Naso sp. though.
