Brandon Soppy joins FC Schalke 04

FC Schalke 04 have signed Brandon Soppy on loan until the end of the 2023/24 season. The Frenchman is currently under contract at Atalanta, but has most recently been on loan at Torino FC. He will wear the number 21 shirt for the Royal Blues.

“We have been able to sign a very dynamic player in Brandon, who we hope will be able to help our team with his energy and his qualities as a footballer. In our current situation, it’s important that we are able to quickly stabilise ourselves, which Brandon is meant to also help with,” said sporting director Marc Wilmots.

Head coach Karel Geraerts added, “Brandon gives us additional options on the right. He will be able to showcase his athleticism and qualities as a footballer there, both in attack and in defence.”

Soppy is also looking forward to getting to know his new teammates, saying “It’s important to me that I’m able to be on the pitch soon and that I become part of the team. Our aims as a team and for myself personally are clear: We need to start picking up better results and improve our position in the table.”

Brandon Soppy was born in Aubervilliers, France in 2002. The defender came up through the ranks at the world-renowned Centre de Formation de Football de Paris (CFFP), going on to make 34 appearances for France at youth level. In 2017, he moved to the Stade Rennes academy. The full-back made his debut for the club in Ligue 1 in 2020. The following year, he moved to Italy to join Udinese. After making 32 appearances for the club, he then moved to fellow Serie A side Atalanta, where he provided four assists in 16 games.
