Family: Fungiidae (Stony Corals)
Habitat: Soft muddy or sandy bottoms in shallow protected water.

Diet: These corals have zooxanthellae which provide much of their nutrition. It is believed they also feed on microzooplankton and directly absorb some nutrients from the water.
Natural History: Polyphyllia are abundant corals on reefs. They lack a prominent central groove, which other Fungiids have. Tentacles are curved and horn-shaped, less than one inch long. They grow as elongated colonies that are generally flat or slightly arched. They have many mouths scattered across the colony surface. Most species are brown.
Husbandry: Slipper Corals prefer a soft rubble bottom, weak current, and bright light. Their tentacles are tipped in white ends that can sting other corals so they should be kept separated from other corals on a sandy substrate.
