Natural History: The Black Cardinalfish is found in well-protected coastal bays hiding among corals or rocks.
Husbandry: The Black Cardinalfish is considered a hardy aquarium fish. An aquarium with caves and other hiding places should be provided for this species. It is reported to use long-spine sea urchins for protection and camouflage. It can be kept in groups with other Black Cardinalfish in larger aquaria. It should only be housed with other peaceful tankmates.
Reproduction: This species is reported to be a mouth brooder.
