Chaetodon meyeri

Chaetodon meyeri, commonly known as the Scrawled butterflyfish, is an unreal looking medium-sized butterflyfish. Their base colour is white with stark contrasting black lines which look like they where drawn with a permanent marker. Around the white body they've bright yellow spots, stripes and areas like made with a yellow neon marker. On the first part of their back they've some small orange spots and in the caudal fin is a vertical thin stripe which is usually quite orangish.

These fish are quite peaceful to most other fish, but might haress similar looking fish. They live mostly solitary as juveniles between branching corals and the more they mature, the more they move around, usually as pairs. In an aquarium they can best be kept alone unless a proven pair can be found. Although this is an absolutely stunning fish to watch, they're obligate corallivores and thus need to eat corals to survive. In the wild they feed on coral polyps of at least 24 different type of corals. This makes them not suitable for a fish-only tank and they can only be kept in a large tank with a lot of fast growing corals where considerable damage to the corals is accepted. Feeding them a varied diet of live and frozen meaty foods can help to minimize the damage to the corals if alternative food is accepted. A real specialist fish!
