Chaetodon striatus

Chaetodon striatus, commonly known as the Banded butterflyfish, is a small butterflyfish. Their body is white with four brown to black vertical bands. Their body is also covered in small spots forming horizontal (scribbled) lines especially in the caudal fin. Sometimes they've a little yellowish on the head. And the anal, caudal and dorsal fin also have a yellowish rim around the black band.

These fish are quite peaceful to most other fish, but might haress similar looking fish. They live solitary or in pairs on coral reefs. Sometimes adults form schools of up to 20 fish and feed on plankton and clean other large fishes in open water. In an aquarium they can best be kept alone unless a proven pair can be found. They're omnivores feeding on all sort of worms, crustaceans, eggs and other invertebrates, but they're also facultative corallivores, meaning they do eat, but don't need corals.This makes them a risk in a reef tank, but a perfect pick for a fish-only tank! Feed them a varied diet of live and frozen meaty foods to make them thrive!
