Symphorichthys spilurus - T.B.

Symphorichthys spilurus, commonly known as the Sailfin snapper, is a large colourful snapper. As juveniles they've a silver base colour with faint yellow over it which intensifies toward the fins. They've one broad black horizontal stripe running from the eye towards the caudal fin. On both sides of the stripes is a thin blue line visible. On the face/head run two vertical (faint black stripes). These stripes become reddish orange when they mature. The horizontal stripes disappears as well, only a black spot at the caudal fin base remains. Instead it gains many horizontal scribbled lines and the yellow on the body becomes brighter as well. The underside of the fish becomes all yellow. the filaments on the anal and dorsal fin become shorter, but will remain.

Adults usually live solitary over sandy bottoms close to the coral reefs. They feed on fishes, mollusks and sand-dwelling crustaceans so make sure to offer them a varied diet of meaty foods, but watch out combining them with small fishes and shrimps.

This fish is Tank Bred and will adapts to your aquarium easier compared to a wild caught specimen!
