resume on
limited scale
The Sulphur Springs Loan
and Building Association has
resumed making new housing
loans on a limited basis fol-
lowing a moratorium of sev-
eral weeks attributed to an
extraordinary accumulation of
applications.
C. Glynn Lowe, association
president, attributed the lim-
itted pace to a combination
of the prevailing high loan de-
mand and the need for main-
taining proper liquidity in the
institution’s financial struc-
ture.
Deposits have continued to
rise despite the competition
for investment money, but
loan demand has been grow-
ing more rapidly with most
other associations in this area
out of the market, he explain-
ed.
The SSL&B statement for
the end of the first quarter
shows savings accounts total-
ing $35,673,339, as compared to
$33,947,014 on the comparable
date a year ago.
Real estate loans have risen
from $31,532,198 on March 31,
1978 to $35,271,570 on March
30, 1979,
Investments have declined
from $5,210,000 in 1978 to
$3,370,000 at the end of last
March,
Reserves and undivided
profits were $2,,896,017 at the
end of March, as compared
to $2,586,911 a year earlier.
