healthy in the Institute as has indeed always
been the case ; there has been but one case
requiring the attendance of a physician. The
Superintendent In his report alludes to the
Fact that the Hethodist Church at its confer-

I hue been longer In wrlllnp; than uiual oh ac-
count of the press of business I have had on hand
daring the part ten days and living some distance
oat of town I am always too tired In an evening to
recllike writing. Thebusyseason maybe nowsald
to be at its height and the city Is more crowded with
Southern outers than I ever remember seeing It-
Texas U well represented of which you may form
some Idea when I tell yon that at the "Mctropoll.
tan" atone there arc n6w over one hundred Texlans
staying and that Gardner's Hotel commonly known
as Peter Miller's Ranch has not yet a spare room
helnpfillea up entirely with Tetlans while the Mer.
chant's notel ts also crowded. Those three houses
have got the cream though Texas men are scattered
all over the city and the bouses doing a Soul htm
trade are now reaping a rich harvest. All are buy-
ing freely In consequence of the flattering prospects
bead and the late European news hu glren addi-
tional impetuj to the confidence which exists In the
continued malntalnance of high prices for our great
staple.
In the Commercial world there have been great
changes since my last. A few days ago the unloos-
ed for Armistice of Napoleon threw the Commercial
Changes Into unexpected furor and this bas so sud-
denly been followed by the "Ptace" that It only
adds more bnbbles to the boiling chaldron. To the

great demand for breads! uCs aod provisions for the
past ten years by foreign countries bad run those
articles well np while land and other attendant pro-
perties followed. Last year however with good
crops abroad the export demand fell of leaving
good stocks on this side and they had commenced
to decline when the war broke onU Bolstered up
by the anticipated demand which must follow a
war Tor a time ihey held ihelr price" but now with
the reset comes also the fact of unprecedented
good crops both abroad and at home while flour in
the last two months has declined $3 per bbl and
pork fS Western lands which were bought two
years ago at $20 per acre were to have been paid

wheat at (1 the lands must go back to the original
owner and ruin fotloc spreading its devastating

The Idea or this organization Is European. Its
fundamental principle Is uol ersal tolerance of re-

of young men strangers In great cities from the
Jnfiuence of temptation and discouragement.
It provides friends for the friendless guides for

Its growth has been vigorous. AQliiared societies

which youthful enterprise has made inperallve bless
the silent benefactions of this society. Tne sick and
