Comic-Con: Andrew Garfield Returns to Meet with Spider-Man's Core Fanbase

Two years after surprising Spider-Man fans at San Diego Comic-Con in costume as the web slinger, Andrew Garfield is set to return to promote “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.”

Sony is taking the sequel, along with its reboot of “RoboCop,” and the toon “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2.”

In 2011, Garfield professed his love for Spider-Man to a crowd of 6,000 attendees gathered inside Hall H at the San Diego Convention Center. Move went over well with the audience who were charmed by the actor’s nervous but heartfelt feelings about the character since he was a kid. “He made me stronger,” he said. “He made me, Andrew, braver. … This is definitely the coolest moment of my life and thank you for sharing it with me.”

Garfield’s first outing as Spider-Man went on to earn $752 million worldwide. Given who attends Comic-Con each year, the audience is an important one for Sony to court with each Spider-Man film. It also regularly made the trip to San Diego to promote the previous trilogy that starred Tobey Maguire.
