hide-and-seek Dorothy (ハイダンシークドロシー)'s latest single Shirochrome (白黑有無) is a bright fantasy world where a gorgeous parade beckons you!

At their two-part one-man show "Xylochrome" at Akabane ReNY alpha on Sunday, March 14th, hide-and-seek Dorothy announced that they would release their first single Shirochrome (白黑有無) on Sunday, March 21st.

Up until the time of their first album HITORILAND (ヒトリランド), hide-and-seek Dorothy depicted the inner life of Dorothy, the key player in the story, as a tale of a journey through time and space. Dorothy runs out of her room and finds a merry-go-round named "El Dorado" in a rusty amusement park. Dorothy, a young girl, is fascinated by the merry-go-round that keeps spinning endlessly while being left behind in the flow of time. What kind of story will Dorothy, lost in the flow of time, draw up next? With the latest single "Shirochrome (白黑有無)", we will see that her expectations took an unexpected turn.

Shirochrome (白黑有無)

This is a song that makes you feel excited from the moment you touch it. As the lyrics state, "In a faded city, the parade begins." From here, the parade begins to take you to the world of dreams that hide-and-seek Dorothy has created. Are you just gazing at the parade carrying your dreams with longing? Or can you be a part of the parade that brings dreams to life? From here, four stylish clowns (angels) will take everyone to a "new world" as the parade unfolds. Spread the wings of your heart and soar high in the sky with the four of them!
This song depicts the "bright fantasy world" shown by hide-and-seek Dorothy. The light and bouncy music makes your heart dance. As one of the lyrics says, it makes you feel like you can take off from here toward "a future that shines just for a moment."

Kokoroatata (心温)

Takuma Tani's warm and gentle voice sings, "Hey, how are you?" as he sings along with the gentle sound of Jouji 2-gou's guitar. The melody of the bass and guitar gradually adds color to the memories, as if looking back on the memories of those who are no longer with us, and adding to the memories that moisten our hearts. By the time the drums joined the performance, the song had created a wonderful drama that unleashed the heart. If there is someone in your life that you don't want to forget, "Kokoroatata (心温)" will surely lead you to faint memories of that person to see through your tear-stained eyelids. In "Kokoroatata (心温)," Takuma Tani sings, "I'll leave the door a little open." EL DORADO (エルドラド)

EL DORADO (エルドラド) was released earlier on as a digital single. Based on a merry-go-round named Carousel Eldorado, which has finished its role and is now sleeping for a moment. Takuma Tani was a young boy when the merry-go-round carried the dreams of many people around in the now defunct amusement park "Toshimaen", which has closed permanently on August 31st, 2020. Then, as an adult, Takuma Tani rode a white horse with his children, and this is the ride that reminds him of his dreams as he spun around. Takuma Tani continues to dream about the Eldorado carousel, and a rusty amusement park in his imagination that has been spinning for a long time. As long as he doesn't stop walking, his dream will never stop...

The members of the band had the following to say about the two new songs, "Shirochrome (白黑有無)" and "Kokoroatata (心温)".

The song "Shirochrome (白黑有無)" is a bright fantasy.

Jouji 2-gou: We started working on the title song "Shirochrome (白黑有無)", a new song, after Tani suggested that we make a bright fantasy song next. After a lot of trial and error, we came up with the song, which is more like a light pop song, as if making it too intense would diminish the fantasy feeling. In our case, we tend to create songs with the idea of live performances in mind. For "Shirochrome (白黑有無)," though, we started making it purely as a song to see how we could pursue it. I tried to create a sense of freedom that could be utilized in live performances, and it turned out to be a good way to settle down.

ZIN: The first thing I thought was that the song should have a sense of speed. I played the song while keeping that in mind, and with Tani's lyrics about spreading your wings and flying away, it became a song with a very liberating sense of life.

Takuma Tani: Up until the time of my first album "HITORILAND (ヒトリランド)", I had been creating stories through the perspective of a woman named Dorothy, moving back and forth between the past and present in a room. However, "EL DORADO (エルドラド)" itself is a song that projects Tani's own feelings about the Carousel Eldorado, a merry-go-round that used to be located in an amusement park called "Toshimaen," which she has remembered since she was a child. In other words, at some point, Dorothy went outside and moved the stage to an amusement park. The second song, "Kokoroatata (心温)," was also written from Tani's own point of view. For a while now, I think it would be good to depict my thoughts and feelings not from Dorothy's perspective, but from Takuma Tani's perspective.

Yasuno: As soon as I entered the amusement park ("EL DORADO") and encountered the parade ("Shirochrome"), I felt that I could enter the bright and fantastic world at once, and that I could make a good start to the second chapter.

What are your thoughts on "Kokoroatata (心温)"?

Jouji 2-gou: The motif of the song was when we held our debut live at Akabane ReNY alpha, and Tani-kun was sitting on the platform singing. You can see it on the 1st PREMIUM ONEMAN LIVE DVD "hide-and-seek". Recalling that scene, I wrote "Kokoroatata (心温)" with the idea of Tani-kun and I somehow sitting close to each other, and Tani-kun starting to sing along with the melody of my guitar.

ZIN: "Kokoroatata (心温)" is a song that starts out with just the song and guitar, and then the bass comes in, and eventually the drums join in, and the sound gradually expands. I tried to make the bass play the role of a cello in "Kokoroatata (心温)," as if it were playing the melody in the background.

Yasuno: The drums in "Kokoroatata (心温)" finally appear in the middle of the song. When the drums are added, the song suddenly takes on a grandiose expression and becomes gorgeous as a result. However, the most important thing I tried to do was to give the audience the feeling that the four of us were performing right in front of them. If "Shirochrome (白黑有無)" is about watching the parade from a distance, "Kokoroatata (心温)" is about the four of us in a circle in a room. In "Kokoroatata (心温)," the four of us are playing in a circle in a room, and it's as if the listeners are joining us in the circle.

Takuma Tani: I want people to feel free to apply the lyrics to their own feelings, and I believe that the correct answer is the one they feel from within. In the lyrics of "Shirochrome (白黑有無)" and "Kokoroatata (心温)," I drew a contrasting view of the world. In "Shirochrome (白黑有無)," I wrote about life and dynamism, and the distance and physical closeness of the heart, while in "Kokoroatata (心温)," I wrote about death and tranquility, and the distance and physical closeness of the heart. This time, I drew contrasts between the worldviews of "Shirochrome (白黑有無)" and "Kokoroatata (心温)," and I created various contrasts in each song of both "Shirochrome (白黑有無)" and Kokoroatata (心温)". If you can find out the various contrasts, I think you will enjoy not only the world view of the songs, but also the CD as a whole.
