Direkt (Mark Spies) started as a drummer and lead vocalist of SuperSpectre in 1996 before relocating from Shepparton to Melbourne in 1998 for tertiary studies. It was in Melbourne that he was introduced to computer based music, producing his first hip-hop tune "State of the World" in 1999. In 2000, Direkt met now best buddy, Obliveus, who had recently moved out from San Jose, California. The Beats Working breakbeat crew was then formed alongside DJs Scotrod, Hans-D.C, Obliveus and MC Direkt - it's still running today! Beats Working grew, and with it - the boys reputations did also. Direkt was booked for raves such as Earthcore, Two Tribes, Welcome NYE, 33 1/3 etc, and held down residencies with crews such as Fractured and Prime Mover - playing to all clubs throughout Melbourne.
