Case Reports in Dentistry
Long-Term Follow-Up following Condylotomy in a Case of Traumatic Unilateral Anterosuperior Mandibular Condyle DislocationAnterosuperior temporomandibular joint dislocation is rare. Manual reduction of such dislocation is difficult especially when treatment is delayed. Therefore, it has an increased likelihood of needing surgical intervention to achieve reduction. The authors report a case of an anterosuperior temporomandibular dislocation in a 19-year-old male following a motor vehicle accident. Difficulties were encountered in reducing the dislocation necessitating surgically assisted reduction. The long-term outcome following management by condylotomy is reported. This present report also reviews the literature regarding the classification and management of this uncommon dislocation.

Treatment Options of Temporomandibular Joint Ankylosis at a Tertiary Level Hospital in Bangladesh: A Two-Year Retrospective AnalysisIntroduction: The study compares the surgical treatment options utilized to treat temporomandibular joint ankylosis at a tertiary level hospital in Bangladesh from 2016 to 2017. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective analysis, 18 patients (28 joints) were studied. History, radiological and physical examinations, and mouth opening were all part of the preoperative and postoperative evaluation. Age, sex, underlying cause, affected joint (s), surgery modality, complications, and follow-up durations were all taken into consideration. The data was analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 statistical software. The degree of mouth opening before and after different surgical techniques in different patient categories was compared using a one-way ANOVA followed by Tuky's HSD test. Results: Temporomandibular joint ankylosis was found to be in several forms (fibrous, fibro-osseous, and osseous), with trauma (61.11%) being the most common cause. The patients ranged in age from 5 to 30 years old, ...

Intraoral approach for arthroplasty for correction of TMJ ankylosis2009 •
This study evaluates the authors' technique using the intraoral approach for the management of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis. The technique was used on 16 TMJs in 14 patients with a mean age of 28.5 years; their average postoperative mouth-opening was 33.7 mm. All the patients had Sawhney's type IV TMJ ankylosis except a child with type I. One patient had recurrent ankylosis and was managed using the same intraoral approach again. Average follow-up was 56 months. The protocol consists of interpositional arthroplasty via an intraoral approach and aggressive mouth-opening exercises. An intraoral incision is made over the buccal shelf and the soft tissue of the mandibular ramus reflected. Osteotomy is carried out at the coronoid process and adequate osteotomy is accomplished at the level of the condylar neck. Adequate gap osteotomy at the ankylosed condyle is performed and followed by placement of the interpositional material, such as rib cartilage, masseter, buccal f...
