Description
Absinthe Fragment Rouge is a red Absinthe from the German SaarWhisky Distillery. It is composed of traditional herbs used to make Absinthe. But after distillation, a further maceration is done. The distillers use cranberries, a little beetroot and hibiscus to obtain the deep red color. The taste of Fragment Rouge is mostly sweet and herbal, dominated by wormwood and lemon balm. Cranberries and licorice make this Absinthe exceptionally sweet. Other herbs included in this recipe are star anise, green anise, peppermint, mint, citrus peel, hyssop, fennel, two types of wormwood, and angelica root.
INFO: It is important to know, that this Absinthe is 100% naturally colored. This means that the red color can change to orange over time. This is a natural process which has no influence to the taste. Please store the bottle in a dark place without direct sunlight. This can preserve the color as long as possible.
The SaarWhisky Distillery
The "Saarland" is a region in the southwest of Germany. It is shaped by heavy mining and crowned with multifaceted natural landscapes. This region is as well home of the SaarWhisky distillery. Since 2015 SaarWhisky is specialized in so-called "Single Cask Bottling". These are whiskey bottlings from only one single cask, which are offered in small batches. These have the same alcohol strength in the bottle as it was originally in the whiskey barrel (cask strength) and come without the addition of colorants or cooling filtration. For this, SaarWhisky imports barrels from Scotland and Ireland, which they personally select from hundreds. In the last years they have expanded their selection as well to exceptional Absinthe, Pastis and Gin which they distill in small batches with eccentric bottle designs.

- A must have rouge! Review by Matthew
Color:Rating
Before water - Very natural, floral, pinkish red. Not a rose red, more like a pink hibiscus. It's very beautiful, almost don't want to dilute it
After water - Opalescent, strawberry milk It even clings to the sides of the glass... so creamy, totally mouthwatering
Aroma:
Spicy earth, cardamom and some sweetness in the background, fresh flowers
Louche:
Layers beautifully from the bottom up in heavy, creamy, strawberry clouds
Taste:
I love the way this one builds. Your foundation is your earthy wormwood and cardamom. Your mortar is the sweetness of the anise, fennel, maybe star anise and a touch of clove. Then your walls are this interesting earthy, red tea (rooibos, don't know how to describe it, if you know you know) and finally the roof is dried fruit.
Finish:
The spicy cardamom and earthy wormwood cling to the side of your tongue while the anise swoops in and dances on top of your tongue. The exhale is calm, warming, and refreshing. This one lingers forever, and is super pleasant. I love drinking this before bed because it hangs on even after brushing my teeth
Overall:
One of the best rouge absinthes in existence! (Posted on 9/29/2022)
