Detailed item info Product Information Choose from eight different fighters, each with their own "spirit animal" to defeat all other fighters and a final boss in Bloody Roar, a hand-to-hand combat game in the same vein as Tekken and Virtua Fighter. Characters have special moves for inflicting damage, and can transform into spirit animals by punching or kicking their opponent. Instant replays highlight the punch or kick that ended the preceding round. Blood is evident in Bloody Roar, but not in the same graphic fashion as the Mortal Kombat series. Review

Bloody Roar is yet another 3D fighting game for the PlayStation. It closely mirrors the arcade version (titled Beastorizer) but also adds new features in the process, resulting in a game that is better than its arcade counterpart.

Bloody Roar may look like a pretty plain fighting game at first glance, but with one tap of the Beast button, all that changes. In addition to a life meter, there is also a beast meter that slowly fills as the fight progresses. Once it gets to a certain level, characters can transform into a faster, stronger animal. Alice turns into a killer rabbit, Greg turns into a giant gorilla, and Fox turns into, well, a fox. In their beast forms, the characters can use new moves, as well as execute the characters' other moves a little faster. Unique to the PlayStation version is the Beast Rave, a fourth button that when pressed, hops the player up, allowing him to attack with almost no break in between moves. The downside of the Rave mode is that using it drains your beast meter, forcing you to fight as a human. The game's combo system keeps the game moving at a very fast pace. Most combos can be achieved through button-mashing, but if you take the time to learn the game, you'll definitely pick up some nice tricks. Toss in the special moves you gain in Beast mode, and you've got an action-packed fighting system.

The graphics in Bloody Roar are every bit as good as the arcade version. The game runs fast and very smoothly. The game's moves are also very dynamic, resulting in a lot of oohs and aahs as a wolf bites a chunk out of his opponent's neck and blood spurts everywhere, splattering on the ground. The music is typical fighting game fare, but the sound effects are really great.

Bloody Roar is one of the more original and exciting fighting games to come along this year. While it probably won't compete with the likes of Tekken 3, it's still a solidly fun fighter with an original take on the genre. --Jeff Gerstmann

Any differences?, you betcha. The controls are so different from Tekken, but yet the feel of the fighters with both series are very consistent and rich in Character, having their own unique abilities and traits. "KING" from the Tekken series would make a nice special appearance onto the Bloody Roar game as a secret character to unlock. Bloody Roar is awesome with an animalistic wit! Compared to the Tekken reaction time when using your buttons to spin off combos, I'd say there is a 4 second delay with Bloody Roar making the game very challenging, since its more on accuracy and timeing, whereas in Tekken you have agility, speed, and timing with the combos towards your opponent. If your a grea fan of Street Fighter, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Guilty Gear, and Samuria Shodown, then yes you will also love this game. The graphics are perfect and smooth, and each time you play it gets interesting, plus with other things to do in the game like in Tekken. A great keeper, and be sure to collect all the Bloody Roar games on the PS-1. PS-2, and PS-3, there is no doubt that one day they will come out with game called DEAD OR ALIVE VS BLOODY ROAR!, that would be sweet. Or TEKKEN w/ Animal "RAVE" VS. DEAD OR ALIVE, yeah baby that would be Da Bomb!

Thanks for reading.

I didn't pay much for this product, in fact I paid under what I thought I would have to pay for it. Anyway I've heard so much about this game that I had to get it to add to my PS1 game collection. I have a few other games and need one of a different genre since all I had was platforming and an RPG game. I was slightly expecting a story mode and was disappointed with it until I finally played arcade mode and beat the final enemy. Very interesting so now I must get the second game. Overall the graphics are dated which I expected, but the fighting style and how you can customize it is just amazing. It's a great game if you want to release your frustrations from the day and just kick some butt. Also if you have roomates and more than one controller it's pretty fun to do some one on one.

Usually I don’t leave reviews, but this game is phenomenal. The disk is obviously used but plays perfectly. Fast shipping, and more than reasonable price my little brother couldn’t wait to play it to see why my other brother and myself loved it so much. His best friend and him have been glued to this game.

Fighters morphing into animals and one into a beast!! This game stands alone that blew me away when I played it on a demo. I could not stop playing despite only two playable fighters: Yugo and Fox. The music is epic as well, whether its the console version or the arcade version.

Game was advertised as “tested”, “acceptable” condition, thus being playable. None appear to be true and it is NOT playable...doesn’t even start. Spent $30 on an old broken game, BEWARE.

well I've had this game for close to three years. a friend left it at my house and shortly after he moved I found it under some stuff. So, I decided to try it out. Since then i've played it about 5 or 6 times, and to tell you the truth, it's not that bad of a game. the original idea of transforming your characters into ferocious beasts is a step ahead of the other fighting simulators out there (tekken, battle arena toshinden, tobal) and is original in it's own right. However, I do think that some of the gameplay is slow and blocky, although the characters are well designed. The difficulty is a bit harder than your usual fighting game, but that leaves the player desiring more gameplay rather than beating it the first time with nothing else to strive for. The art section is interesting, and the characters are displayed wonderfully. One thing I'd like to point out though--I really thought Fox was cute...until I found out it was a GUY. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a pervert who obsesses over video game girls, but I thought fox looked alot cuter than alice...but when I found out that it was a guy...haha I just about smacked myself. So anyways, to sum it all up, this game is a good kick for 2 player or playing it once in awhile, but as far as total replay value goes, it's not all THAT great. I recently sold mine ot somebody because I never played it, and it just sat around. I figured with the extra money I could use it to invest in some shiny new guitar effects pedals or something of the like. so, having spent 5 minutes of my time, I hope I helped somebody in making their decision whether to buy this game or not. -Jared
