"Do you want to skate in the blood?" This is how my friend introduced me to this game. My answer was yes, of course, and she proceeded to hand me a controller to play. At first I had no idea how to play, evidenced by my high death count and low jewel count, but I quickly got the hang of it.

This game is not for the faint of heart, or that of a nervous disposition. The game is a wonderful take on fairy tales, and for those who would love to take an axe to 'Prince Charming' this is your chance. The weapons range from useful (Woodcutters Axe) to the seemingly-useless (Carrot). Each level has it's challenges, with the earlier levels being quite easy and the later levels being infuriatingly difficult. However, the levels last longer than you realize (especially when you try to save).

I recommend this to anyone. It's great fun alone, and even better with another player.

So, to get right to it, if you like quirky, mature, funny video games then you will like this game. Multi-player is fun, you can work together, or you can mess with each other. Single player is just as fun. There is a plethora of weapons, and the story is hilarious.

I really wanted to like this game. The cartoon look, funny dialogue, and gruesome battles were all great but unfortunately weren't enough to make this game a keeper. After the first level you quickly realize the currency in the game does one thing, and one thing only. That is to build and upgrade a statue of whatever fairytale creature you decide to play the game as. There is literally nothing else to spend your money on. There is a great variety of weapons but they all pretty much have the same moves which are carried out using one of the joysticks. Since the joystick can only be pushed in several different directions the moves don't vary much. The manual claims you make combos of all kinds of varieties but that didn't seem to be the case. The button layout was awkward as well. You could hold 2 weapons at any given time. If you died, you would drop the weapon you were holding at that time. If you were fighting with a strong weapon you would more than likely want to pick it back up when were resurrected. For some reason though the developers thought it would be a good idea to start you with the weapon you had in your secondary slot. The throw and change weapons buttons were the shoulder buttons and more than not I was throwing away a weapon meaning to switch or using potion / health potion / etc unintentionally. None of the weapons can be carried to the next level and you can't upgrade them. It would have been nice had they given you the ability to upgrade and or purchase weapons before each level but I guess dedicating the currency to a statue figurine that does absolutely nothing, made more sense. Though all this I stuck with the game to the end only to receive a glitch on the very final boss fight. The giant would get stuck in a sleeping position on the table and non of my attacks injured him. I had to restart the level from the very beginning but wanted to finish the game. Again, I was met with the glitch. I looked around online and found nobody else having this issue. I pulled the disc and cleaned it and cleared the cache on my hard drive. Reloaded the game and went through the entire last level again only to have the same thing occur. The glitch in the end was what did it for me but if I am being honest, the game left much to be desired

Fairytale Fighters is a strange animal top to bottom it's a old school hack and slash with platforming elements

Gameplay:
This game is actually very slick and fun it's like a retro Arcade title (This is the type of Arcade game i could see being next to MK II and NBA Jam in a real arcade)
It's like Golden Axe on bath salt it's just flat out insane..... the death animation and some of the cut scenes are brave and unique

Graphics: the Art style should be a huge reason to pick this up
There hasn't been many games in the last 15 years that has this look
the developers mashed-up South Park with Claymation to get the over all style
and it works

Controls:
The controls are blah! they are not terrible but, they just feel off
you use weapons with the right analog stick
you pick up items with the left trigger you go through-your weapons with the L1 Button
the platforming is hit and miss (mostly due to the fixed camera angle)
The fixed camera also effects different range weapons you can pick up
at times it's hard to judge if you are able to hit your target
you'll miss more then connect that's for sure

The layout of the game is just very convoluted
your game hub is weird you are never fully sure what to do and where to go
The Save system also is flat out wacky (the game saves at various times but, there is No save file anywhere on your console (I guess it's built into the disc???) I looked for the file on my 360 HD then, the cloud, then the external HD and still couldn't find it

Once you get past the strange control layout and some of the minor problems
It's a real hidden Gem that nobody really talks about.....
The cover looks super generic but, it's Not a generic title by any means it's just tries to be to much and it kind of pays for it's own creativity!
There is more good then bad if you can just over look the weakness

If you love Conker's Bad Fur Day and South Part: The Stick of Truth check it out
9/10

This game cracks me up every time I put it in to play. I love how silly it is and how different. Definitely one of my favorite games!
