Two Necromancers, an Army of Golems, and a Demon Lord (The Unconventional Heroes Series Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 903 ratings

Two necromancers, an army of golems, and a demon lord – it sounds like a recipe for trouble, and for Timmy, it definitely is.

To earn his pardon and avoid horrible torture and/or gruesome execution, Timmy has to complete every mission the Council throws his way, most of which seem to involve extremely scary things trying to kill him. At least he’s got help – sort of. His help consists of an apprentice with designs on his castle (and her plans may or may not involve overthrowing him), a bureaucrat whose two greatest skills are fainting in the face of trouble and using people (usually Timmy) as human shields, and an elf with the world’s worst case of pyromania and enough magic to level a mountain.

Somehow, Timmy’s got to get this bunch of unconventional heroes to work together. Trouble is coming, and it’s trouble of the kind that only a necromancer like Timmy could possibly find himself in the middle of. An army of killer golems is on the loose, which may give Timmy the excuse he needs to legally unleash wave after wave of killer zombies. Zombie versus golem – it’s every necromancer’s dream. And then there’s the demon lord that’s out to usher in the apocalypse. Sure, demons aren’t exactly his specialty, but there’s nothing that a good magical shovel to the back of the head can’t fix.

One way or another, Timmy is going to get his pardon and a tax rebate too – even if it means going up against murderous golems, insane demon lords, or mischievous ninja rodents with a predilection for magical swords and the skills to back up the trash talk.

The antics continue and are great. There's hood character development. Def a fun easy read. I would definitely recommend this series!

This second in the series was as fun as the first. I think I enjoyed it a bit more since it didn't go into repeating things from the first book. There's a whirlwind of activity as the story progresses. We do learn abit more about the core characters and are introduced to a few more characters that will hopefully be having more cameo appearances in the future.
So again another fun filled light read.

Picking up right where the first novel left off, Tim, Katie, Gerald, Avraniel, the Clan of Ninja Rats, and of course lots of zombies continue to earn their pardons from Everton. There was an excellent mix of world building and action. We get to meet 2 actual Council members (though only one in the flesh). Learned more of Tim's backstory (and "friendship" with a new Council member), a lot more about Sam's "race," and tons of stuff about the Rats (from their religion, stories of their past, and even a Prophesy about their future). The personalities of Avraniel and Gerald were fleshed out more, and we also learned a bit more about their past too. The world building didn't just consist of the main cast as we learned quite a bit more about Everton's border lands and a nearby kingdom, and a few places beyond the Everton periphery were touched on too. On the action side we had hordes of Zombies vs Horde of Golems, a new type Rat Clan member, Humongous Fantasy Mecha fight, and Apocalyptic avoidance Finale. Lastly, I think most importantly we gained more insight of how people see Tim the Grand Necromancer.

Though, the book is written in fun and less serious tone. I love how the story has many layers to it. Like Avraniel is more than a crazy pryo, but an Elf that has had to deal with harsh life of being hated and hunted. Also, Tim's character is so different and much more than he appears. Which is hinted at by comments from the new Council member and a new member of the group "The Old Man" when he was talking with Katie. When I was read the fire side chat of the Kaite and the Old Man, I thought back about two earlier points regarding Katie and Avraniel. In regards to the first one Tim was proud of Katie for finding her Ninja Rat Minions, but how he never found his. The second point Avraniel thinks about developing her own Minions and how it was something she was missing. To be honest Tim has his minions (if not an adoptive family) even though they probably do not think of themselves as such. In fact, if you pointed it out they would immediately justify their actions for a variety of other reasons. However, the truth is Katie, Avraniel, the Rat Clan, and even Gerald are all following Tim. In fact in many times go out of their way to do things against their natures for Tim's benefit.

Another will written paranormal fantasy world 🌎 haunting horror ghost 👻 adventure thriller short story by L. G. Estrella (The Unconventional Heroes Series book 2). A paranormal story with interesting well developed characters lots of action, misdirection, and violence leading to the unexpected conclusion. There are more demon monsters and other things than I would keep track 👣 of. I would recommend this series and author to 👍 readers of paranormal fantasy action adventure mystery novels 👍🔰. Enjoy the adventure of reading 👓 or listening 🎶 to Alexa as I do because of eye damage and health issues. 2023 😮👒😡😕

I will say that L. G. Estrella writes a different kind of paranormal novel. Happy reading have fun

A perfect follow up to the first book, with all the humour and satire intact. The action scenes are tight, smooth, very well written, even when they are being a bit silly. The satire on the various tropes of high fantasy is well done and quite funny.

Book Two of the Trilogy and its continues on the excellent saga you found in Book one. Every main character is endearing and their histories and personalities grow more each book. This formula works really well and adding heroes along the way, keeps the "universe" expanding while allowing for more plot options. This book could stand alone and the reader would still be entertained, but the Trilogy and subsequent stories makes for fun read and hoping for more Necromancers stories to be written by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Das Buch der Serie, das mich überzeugt hat
Reviewed in Germany on July 5, 2017

“I’ll make them pay. Nobody kills my zombies and gets away with it!”

Totally absurd and perfectly logical! Pitted against an army of mutant golems and an evil dark lord is the most unlikely team of heroes: a fire-obsessed elf (to put it mildly), a magic shovel-wielding necromancer with his ninja rats-loving apprentice (wearing pink-rimmed glasses, no less), an old plantsman with a penchant for bonsai trees and uh... a bureaucrat (I don't really need to attach any adjectives to him). Hilarious and nicely written, I liked the first part better and I'm looking forward to the next adventures of this budding group.

“The banjo?” Avraniel snorted. “You play the banjo? Please don’t tell me that you’re one of those mopey necromancers, you know, the ones who sit in darkness all day writing bad songs about how the whole world has gone to hell and how everyone you love has left you.”

As good as the first book only there is more of it. Funny, enjoyable, and good action.
