About the author
Barbara Jelenkovich
She attended the State school of art and graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice.
She is an illustrator specializing in pictures for children from 2 to 6 years old.
Her first book was published in 1985. To date she have had more than 190 books published, which have been translated into 41 different languages.
Her books have often been selected in the guides of “Nati per leggere” and its German analogue “Stiftung Lesen”, as well as in specialized literature and popularization sites in Germany.
In both 2019 and 2020 her work was selected for the exhibition CICLA China International Children's Literature Award in Shanghai.
In 2019 her book "Tür auf, tür zu!" published by Coppenrath, won the contest Stiftung Lesen by Bundesministerium fur Bildung und Forschung.
In 2019 she was called to represent Italy in the exhibition “Zeich (n) en für Europa / Dessinons l'Europe ensemble” in Frankfurt at the Goethe Universität.
In 2011 and 2018 the play based on her book “San Nicolò e il piccolo Krampus”, SFF, UD, 2008, was staged.
In 2010 the illustrations for the book "Der Froschkönig", arsEdition, München were used as the scene painting for the concert of the Moritzburg Festival "Der Froschkönig bittet zum Seerosenball" staged at Die Gläserne Manufaktur von Volkswagen in Dresden.
In 2006 the illustrations for her book "A busy awakening", Gakken, Tokyo were used to make the cartoon "Toto the Hedgehog", which was published on DVD by Kyowon Jem Club, Seoul.
In 1996 she won the prize "Un libro fantastico per l'infanzia" ALPI APUANE, for the book "Il Mio Primo Libro Dei Numeri", published by Istituto Geografico DeAgostini, Milano. She also designed the costumes for the children’s play based on the same book.
