Arizona Cardinals reveal new uniforms on social media

The Arizona Cardinals have new uniforms as of Thursday night, as revealed to a small group of fans and invited guests at The Van Buren concert venue and bar in downtown Phoenix.

The standout features are the all white helmet, pants and top, the all red tops and pants with the word “Arizona” across the front of the jersey and silver stripes on the shoulders of the black and white jerseys.

The word “Cardinals” is inscribed on the silver stripe. There is also silver trim around the numerals on the red jersey.

It had been 18 years since the last time the team changed the look of their uniforms.

"I knew what they looked like for a couple of days and it was super exciting. It was hard to keep it a secret," Cardinals running back James Conner said, sporting the white uniform.

Wide receiver Hollywood Brown donned the red primary uniform and said the name of the state on the front was the best part for him.

"Real sleek, make me look even faster," Brown said. "I was like, 'oh these are crazy.' Like whatever was in my mind, I was not expecting this."

Before the unveiling, fans — many wearing now outdated red jerseys — were offered the opportunity to send questions for new head coach Jonathan Gannon, who took part in a question-and-answer session on stage.

Fans shouted for Gannon to display some of the high energy with which he operates at team headquarters. Gannon responded, saying they will see it in September.

“Look good, feel good, play good,” Gannon said of the new uniforms.

It's the latest in an offseason of changes for the franchise, which added Gannon and new general manager in Monti Ossenfort.

The new Cardinals jerseys will be available for purchase at www.azcardinals.com/shop on Thursday night. The Arizona Cardinals Team Shop at State Farm Stadium will have the jerseys for sale starting Friday at 10 a.m.

Arizona Cardinals reveal new uniforms live on YouTube and Twitter

The team made official what has long been speculated Thursday morning with an announcement via Twitter.

It's to be the third uniform design change since the team arrived from St. Louis in 1988. The Cardinals wore their St. Louis Cardinals uniforms that first year, then added the Arizona state flag on the sleeves of the white jerseys the following season.

That lasted until 2005, when a uniform re-design included a slight change in the bird logo. The team has since added a third black jersey, "Color Rush" black uniforms and a black helmet.

Reports of new uniforms for the Cardinals surfaced last month, with the news that the Cardinals would unveil them prior to next week's NFL draft. Since then, the team has shared social media videos including a Nike case in the desert, teasing the arrival of new uniforms.

Offensive lineman D.J. Humphries was in large part the face of the uniform reveal, appearing as a secret agent of sorts in a video created by the Cardinals to build anticipation for Thursday.

"I love them," Humphries said. "It was definitely a step up for sure."
