Poured into a snifter from a 11.2 oz bottle.

Appearance: Very nice, dark amber - kind of a maroon when held up to the light; clear, with some carbonation; small, cream colored bubbly head which leaves good lacing but dissipates quickly.

Aroma: Fruit, alcohol and wood.

Taste: Surprisingly smooth mouthfeel - alcohol is masked nicely; fruit and oak.

This is a fantastic beer and an excellent Eisbock. The more I drink this style, the more I like it. I would put this easily among my favorite beers. For the strength, it goes down with ease. Ausgezeichnet!

Review from 2/2011 notes. Most likely a 2006 bottle, properly cellared (purchased as a cellared bottle, no date). Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a dark, somewhat cloudy red brown amber. Minimal head, no lacing. Dark fruit and sweet malt aroma. Sweet malts, caramel and dark fruit. This has mellowed well and has an understated semi-sweet malt finish. Interesting.

 

 

Well, now. I must say that this sample has been stored in the back of the fridge for maybe 3 years now. I didn't know what to expect.

Poured a DEEP ruby red. Very dark. Had a small ringy head, well - not really much of a head at all. Deep Nutty guteral aroma that is buried well. Also - some fruitiness and dark breadiness.

The taste is absolutely extremely smooth and silky, with very some slight tinits of medicinal properties.

Overall, this seems to be a well though out, quality beer. It does not disapoint my palette. In fact I could drink this all day long,

Cellared bottle, 2-3 years old. Poured into Duvel tulip at cellar temperature. Solid finger of creamy foam, dark brown body, ruby tinge when backlit. Spotty lace and a broken skim after a few minutes, with a solid ring of foam on the periphery. Sweet, vegetal aroma. Odd at first, but it makes sense in the context of an aged Eisbock. Some dried fig and brown sugar.

Very malty taste, oxidized with grape and sherry notes. Sweet fruit, a hint of candle wax. Thick, vinous feel with a ton of rich caramel. One and done, I wouldn't recommend this for cellaring long-term.

more caramel flavor with just a hint of something that tastes like sweet oranges, rolls into a warm peppery alcohol theres not much to it but it's quite pleasant

light carbonation and very FULL body, lots of alcohol warmth to it. Actually a bit of tannins on the finish

rather drinkable very smooth you don't really have to think about it.

It's weird it's complex, it's big and it doesn't require thought. Good beer.

11.2oz bottle poored into a pilsner glass. (next time I'll use a snifter for this style)

Brown with amber outlines and small frothy quickly disappearing head. Did have some paches left on the top, but the carbination was low and struggled to sneak through this obviously full bodied offering. The nose is strong with a warm alcohol sent to go with a dark candied fruit sent, pears and plumbs mainly. Huge malt sent but not toasted or carmelly much more like a fig or root smell. Taste is a pretty much what the nose advertised but with that wonderful earthy malt flavor taking the lead and even a hair of noble hop if your patient. Over all very syrupy brew but still very drinkable as a sipper.

You usually hear that the color of a beer has nothing to do with its overall strength, but this definitely decieved me on this one, pouring a light-copper, bright-honey colored hue with a minimal head, yet packing a serious punch at a hefty 9.8% ABV...
Serious alcohol smell noticeable along with a mixture of pears and ripe fruits...
What was evident in the nose also appeared in the mouth, with a burst of fresh citrus, pineapple, canteloupe, melon, and florals...
Heavy, full-bodied mouthfeel with a decent level of drinkability despite the strong ABV...
Worth a shot...

Schloss Eggenberg Urbock Dunkel Eisbock pours up sublime with a short lived beige head that regally tops the dark mahogany body. The candied malt aroma has hints of arabica coffee, toasted pistachios, taffy apple, & figgy pudding. Very clean. No diacetyl or DMS. No hop aroma. Low dark fruity esters with some perceivable alcohol. The rich, roasted flavor starts of slightly sweet with some pleasant chocolate-cherry cordial notes which are nicely balanced by a moderately spicy hop bitterness. Schloss Eggenberg's Urbock Dunkel Eisbock is a surreptitious strong lager that shows some finesse & complexity. Highly recommended to all malt lovers. Enjoy this one after dinner paired with some traditional Austrian Topfenstrudel.

Pours a clean deep brown colour, almost no head but with some brownish bubbles. It has some artificial sugary smell, with caramel, plums, cinnamon and dark fruits.
Body is lighter than I expected. Taste of apple, dark fruits, plums, sherry wine or brandy.
Good one, have to give it another try.

pours a dark red oak color(for those of us whom were shop kids) with a film on top, not a head by any means. smells much like a porter, roasted nose. tastes of caramel, some roasted malts(perhaps where the caramel flavor comes from) an uber subtle hop presance and a warming liquor quality to the finish. the mouth-feel starts out smooth but quickily crispens up and then returns to that malty smoothness, and she drinks at an average pace for a 9.8% brew, a new favorite for me.

Pours a deep brown with the slightest red/orange tint. Good head leaves a ring after dissipation. Smell is very rich with caramel, bread, caramelized dark fruit really with raisin. plum raisin smell. Taste follow the nose. very caramely and dark fruity. Sugars and toffee abound. This is a wonderful beer but I will dock its taste a bit due to the slight coppery flavor just before the finish. smooth finish with the abv incredibly well hidden. (amazing how this is brewed by the makers of samichlaus!) A great eisbock and defenitely worth seeking out. Quite drinkable, but be careful!

Pours a thick, viscous dark brown with very little carbonation and virtually no head. Some forlorn bubbles ooze upward through the thickness. Smells very sweet and syrupy, with mucho sweet malt and some yeasty estery notes. Taste is a tad dryer and with pronounced flavors of bready malt, sultanas, and honey. There is an almost crackery aftertaste tinged with a bit of bitter. Very smooth and clean mouthfeel. A bit syrupy, but surprisingly, not overly sweet. Drinks nicely as a digestif.
