Thirty years of Billy – a plain, almost “naked” bookshelf that is an icon of the furniture world but also the core of IKEA’s success.
An archetype for a generation’s turn away from its parents’ traditional lifestyles to more flexible homemade living environments.
IKEA and the publishing house Zweitausendeins commissioned us to design this anniversary book, which in keeping with IKEA’s philosophy consists of a children’s and an adult section. Thanks to the editorial collaboration with Jan Teunen and Nina Puri, illustrations by Doreen de Voss, photographs by Martin Grothmaak and others, the result is an interdisciplinary book that is critical and design-oriented on the one hand, entertaining and family-friendly on the other.
