VeloBase.com - Shimano Most Wanted photos

One of the major efforts this year on VeloBase.com has been improving both the quality of data as well as photos in the collection. Also I have decided that all photos should (and are now required) to be tagged with their source - ie: who took the photo / has copyright to the photo. Of course this change came after I had already added several thousand photos to the website and the job has now become slowly replacing out these old (often also lower resolution) photos with new photos which I know the source of.

The BikeForums C&V community was such a huge help in updating and expanding the photo collection of Head Badges last month, than I though I'd engage your help again in taking a chunk out of the remaining 1600 or so photos left that do not have a source. I have compiled a list of all of the Shimano parts which I do not have a photo with source accredited to it. If you own this part and have or would be willing to take a few photos of it to either post here in the thread so I can upload into VeloBase, or if you have an account on VeloBase I encourage you to upload them as your time allows.

Note: Mounted on bike photos are fine. Off the bike is preferred, but beggers can't be choosers as they say!

VeloBase.com - Campagnolo Most Wanted photos

Do you have a preference for whether the parts are in use mounted on a bike, or not in use and like sitting on a table or something?

I've got about 4 or 5 of the things on your list, but they are mounted on bikes and in use.

I'll snap some photos of my Dura Ace AX group for you. I assume it's okay if they're on the bike?

Zaphod & Collin - on the bike photos are fine (added note in OP). Off the bike photos are nice if I can get them, but I fully know most of us don't buy parts just to stash in boxes - we buy them for a bike, on a bike, and we use them!

I had the parts off the bike at first and snapped photos, but that was before I polished them and the photos are somewhat lousy. Here's one of the Dura Ace AX cranks on the bike, if this helps at all. I'll get better detail for you later.

Collin, that's a great photo, however it is not the Dura-Ace AX crankset. It does use the Dyna-Drive system with the oversized pedal threads and internal bearings that it shared with the AX crank, but the crank photoed is actually part of the Dura-Ace EX 7200 series. (I had the same crank mis-labeled on VeloBase for some time, so it's a common mistake!) I would be curious to hear if the model number is stamped on back of the crankset to confirm that it is indeed FC-7200.

btw: Front derailleur also appears to be a 7200 series part.

i can take photos of the RD-L525 and PD-1050 off the bike and post here later tonight.

for the RD-M700, i don't have pics off the bike, but here's a couple on the bike:

date code on the RD-M700 in the above pics is HJ (10/83)

for the BL-1051 SLR 105, also don't have off the bike but here it is on the bike:

don't have date codes, but can check tonight. would you like better closeups of these on the bike?

ps-- thanks for making the velobase what it is... a fantastic reference, it's been tremendously helpful to me for sure.

I think this is a 6400 seat post, 27.2mm.

I also have 6400 and 6401 front and rear derailleurs I can photograph, as well as a 7400 crankset.

got southpaw's photos up.

mazdaspeed - I actually needed the non-aero version of the post. But when I went to look I found that only one photo of 4 existing ones did not have a source so I just deleted that first photo so I'm set on the SP-6400 now. Thanks!

And as always, I'm always interested in getting photos of unique, rare, odd, or otherwise interesting parts, Shimano or otherwise. For example, this evening uploaded a set of Gian Robert Competition derailleurs & shifters.

I actually have emails out to Adds waiting on responses for a Bike with the 8speed Ultegra and second bike with the 105sc looking for parts to build my new R300 frame. If I get either they will be coming off the bike and I have a new camera that I am ready to play with.

Man, I love those short reach 105s from the late 80s. Shimano really did a nice job designing those.

Yes they did. I had a set for a short time on my Gazelle when I first built it up (the first time).

I think I'm all caught up now other than the Dura-Ace 25th edition photos which I will probably get to later this weekend. I've edited the original post to pull out the items that have been updated.

Slightly less, but close I think. A google search did turn up an eBay seller who sold one recently, so I have an email in with them asking to get permission to use those photos.

Shimano HD-7300 Dura-Ace AX - now with updated photos! Seller actually has one more pair of these actually, so if anyone is interested, keep an eye on eBay. Seller's eBay ID show on the source of the photos on VeloBase.
