It’s been four years since the English rock-pop duo The Ting Tings released their album Super Critical. Their newest project, The Black Light, was released Friday (Oct. 26) and is now available on all streaming services.
The album totals eight songs and includes the previously released singles “Estranged” and “Blacklight.” The duo wrote and recorded the album over a two-year period in both Spain and Los Angeles. They were set to tour in 2015 until lead singer/guitarist Katie White announced a hand injury that would prevent her from performing, and thus the U.S. tour was canceled.
“The Black Light” has a noticeably darker sound than their upbeat pop hits like “That’s Not My Name” and “Shut Up and Let Me Go.” It still has the punchy vocals and beats characteristic of The Ting Tings sound, especially evident in the synth-heavy “Basement,” “A & E” and “Word for This.”
