By the time Jarryd James’ music video for “1000x” begins, we know something’s gone horribly wrong. Crickets chirp as a seemingly distraught woman slams her hands on the wooden siding of a house and then the song plays. “I wanted there to be an element of darkness to the video that would contrast the nature of the lyrics,” James explained.
The artist and New Zealand indie pop duo Broods collaborated on the single, which dropped in June, and the two bands are set to tour together next month. Georgia Nott, the voice of Broods, says,“’1000x’ is extremely special to me. I’m honored to be a part of such an honest and beautiful song with one of our favorite people in the world.”

Billboard is excited to exclusively premiere the new video:
Director Jessie Hill and DP Vance Burberry, who both worked on Broods’ video for “Free,” took the shoot to New Orleans to film, providing some antebellum textures to the video, like a boarded-up, whitewashed church and old Southern antique furniture. Watch the couple as they travel from intoxicating puppy love to infidelity, and then all the way to forgiveness. She’s in a lacy white dress, he’s in a wifebeater, and they’re both drinking a lot of red wine. The whole aesthetic is very Streetcar Named Desire.
