It is important to know how to care for ranunculus flowers as these flowers are known for being a bit more delicate than most. This flower, by far, is a favorite flower among brides-to-be. The size of the bloom will vary from 1 inch to 2 inches in diameter. Many people who order ranunculus flowers do not realize these are not large blooms.

Each stem can have a few buds, but there will only be one that will bloom. They have multi-layer petals that are paper-thin and bloom into a circular shape. The ranunculus flowers have natural, whimsical curly stems, and you will not find any with a perfectly straight stem. You can use floral wire if you use them in floral arrangements and want the stem to be straight. If your ranunculus arrives and looks small or wilted, do not panic!Β  As soon as they are properly hydrated, they will perk up, and the blooms will begin to open.

Ranunculus: All About Flower Care

Be very careful as you remove the packing from the ranunculus flowers. The stems are hollow and easily can break.

Rehydrate ranunculus flowers in a tall vase so the stems are adequately supported during rehydration. Support the stems using a tall vase, and don’t overcrowd them. The stems will appear wilted if they do not have adequate support during rehydration.

Always use a sharp pair of floral scissors to trim flower stems. After trimming the stems, you should remove any leaves below the waterline so your flowers can flourish. Any leaves left in the water can introduce potentially harmful bacteria to the water shortening the flower’s vase life. This is true for all fresh-cut flowers.

Change the water regularly, and if you notice your flowers start to droop, it could be that they are not getting enough water. In this case, give the flowers a fresh retrim at the bottom of the stems.

Most fresh-cut flowers do not like direct sunlight, hot or cold drafts, especially ranunculus flowers. And always keep ranunculus flowers away from petsβ€”they’re toxic to animals!
