Emily Blunt Reveals That Her Marriage to John Krasinski Helped Inspire Her Latest Acting Role

Emily Blunt is an award-winning actress who’s starred in several hit films, such as The Devil Wears Prada, The Girl on the Train, and Oppenheimer. Needless to say, she's a seasoned veteran in Hollywood who knows what she's doing. But for her latest acting gig, David Leitch’s action-comedy The Fall Guy—an adaptation of the 1980s television drama—Blunt sought inspiration for her character from a very special source: her husband, John Krasinski. In the film, which is set to premiere on May 3, 2024, Blunt plays Jody Moreno, an aspiring director who’s dating the protagonist, Hollywood stuntman Colt Seavers (played by Ryan Gosling). 

While Krasinski has a wealth of experience as an actor, he’s also directed numerous movies, like A Quiet Place (and its sequel) and the upcoming film Imaginary Friends. So, naturally, Blunt used her husband’s career to nail her role in The Fall Guy. “I am married to a director—I know what it’s like to hold the tempest of the movie in your head and the pressures of being pulled in a million directions,” she told People in an interview published on March 13, 2024.

The actress further shared with People the approach she took to playing her character. “I liked her eccentricity,” she explained. “I liked her humanity. She was fun to me. I just loved her. I like that we didn’t do the sort of earnest, serious director. I was keen to show somebody in a situation where she was way over her head, and yet, she’s incredible and talented.”

After Blunt and Krasinski tied the knot in 2010, the two entertainment stars primarily worked on separate projects until they decided to join forces by collaborating together on A Quiet Place, a horror movie that aired in 2018. In the film, the real-life duo played an on-screen couple who struggled to raise their children in a post-apocalyptic world. Not only did Krasinski star in the movie, but he also directed it. After the film hit the box office, Krasinski gushed about his experience working with Blunt. “I’ve never loved my wife more than after we did this movie,” he admitted. “For me, it was a trust thing. We trust each other in day-to-day life for sure, but when you trust each other in this way, it’s different.”

The following year, Blunt won a SAG Award for Best Supporting Actress in A Quiet Place. In her acceptance speech, she praised her husband and his talent. “I am going to share this completely with my husband, John Krasinski, because the entire experience of doing this with you has completely pierced my heart directly,” she expressed. “You are a stunning filmmaker. I am so lucky to be with you and to have done this film with you.” Since the first iteration was such a success, the two of them launched the sequel, A Quiet Place Part II, which premiered in 2021.
