As Brits we are some of the biggest tea drinkers in the world. There are approximately 100 million cups of tea drunk across the country each day.

From Earl Grey and English Breakfast to herbal teas like peppermint and chamomile, there are lots to choose from. But a new tea that has hit the shelves of Aldi, has taken flavoured teas to another level.

Coming in three flavours, the retailer has brought out a range of biscuit-flavoured teas. And one item that Brits love almost as much as tea is their biscuits.

The flavours include Jaffa Cake, salted caramel and a generic biscuit. Costing £1.49 each, this may be the way to get your biscuit fix without the added calories. I decided to buy one box of each flavour to see what they were like.

The first one I tried was the Jaffa Cake tea. I’m not the biggest fan of Jaffa Cakes themselves, although that is more of a texture thing than taste, so I was curious to see what this tea would be like. One of the first things you notice once you have added the water is the strong chocolate orange smell, which is identical to what you get from an actual Jaffa Cake.

I found the taste a bit weird, while the smell of Jaffa Cakes was there, the taste definitely wasn’t. There was a hint of orange flavour but nothing substantial and it petered off quite quickly leaving a taste of sweetened water. If I were to rate this, I would give it a 6/10 - the taste wasn’t great but the smell was bang on.

The next I decided to try was the salted caramel flavour, which sounds nice in principle but could be on the sweeter side. As you would expect, the instant the water hit the tea bag you get a strong whiff of caramel, which was actually quite nice but would it taste like caramel?

Again the taste was a bit of a let down as you didn’t really get a hint of anything until after you had already swallowed the liquid. But the taste does stay in the back of your throat for a long time. I would probably give this a 5.5/10 as while the taste was a bit better, the lingering taste at the end wasn’t the nicest.

The final tea in the collection was just a general biscuit tea which to me smelt like a Hobnob, one of my favourite biscuits. I would have to say the smell on this one wasn’t as strong, maybe because it didn’t have a stand out flavour like orange or caramel, but there was still a slight hint of sweetness.

I think this one tasted the most like normal tea, it wasn’t too overly sweet and had a hint of taste but not too much. Again there was a slight aftertaste but this time it wasn’t too strong so was actually quite nice. I would say this was probably my favourite and I would give this a 7/10.
