    Great Germination

    Reviewed by Mike P on

Germination was excellent, I had more plants than I needed, but only one flowered this year, I'm hoping they will all survive the winter and will be stronger and flower next year.

Thank you for your review. This is usually a first year flowering perennial, perhaps due to the unusually cool and wet season this may have influenced the plant in producing flowers. As you are leaving them to over winter hopefully you will have lots of flowers to enjoy next year. The Chiltern Seeds Team.

    Beautiful, but smelly

Great germination and growth. But everytime I touch them this lemon toilet bowl cleaner scent comes out.

Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear that you have had good germination from our seeds and that the subsequent plants have done well for you. Scent is something which is very personal to humans, but for plants it is a tool to attract pollinators so that the plant can reproduce. Scent output is at maximal levels only when the flowers are ready for pollination. We are sorry to hear you do not particularly like the scent of this plant. The Chiltern Seeds Team.

    Germination Instructions

Sow indoors. Surface sow onto moist well-drained seed compost. Cover with a sprinkling of soil. Propagate or place somewhere warm, 15-20°C. Water from the base of tray only. Keep moist but not wet. Germination takes 5-10 days. When seedlings have 2 true leaves prick out to 8cm pots and grow on. Acclimatise and plant out once danger of frost has passed with 100cm spacing. Overwinter autumn sowings in a frost free area.

    Growing Instructions

Prefers light, moist soil in full sun. Does not like a wet soil in winter so add grit prior to planting if needed. Requires little attention.

    Cultivation Instructions

Deadhead spent blooms to extend the flowering window. Cut down to the ground in late winter. Divide large clumps in early spring. To harvest flowers for the vase or drying cut when fully open. Hang upside down in a warm place to dry.
