CLEVELAND, Ohio — During the process of landing their man last week in new manager Stephen Vogt, Guardians executives uncovered another candidate who also turned out to be a perfect fit for a unique role within the organization.
Former Giants bullpen coach Craig Albernaz signed on for the newly created job of major league field coordinator after going through interviews to become Cleveland’s manager. Though he did not land the top job, Albernaz got to know president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti and general manager Mike Chernoff, and both sides quickly realized there was a connection.
