Mark Bermes

Mark Bermes (61), beloved husband of Jeanine (nee Baldwin), father of Peter (Lindsay), Emily (Jack), and Matthew, passed away at home on October 20, 2022 surrounded by his family. He loved family, friends, and fishing.

Mark grew up in Northbrook, IL, son of the late Edward and Patricia. He was the middle child surrounded by Kathy (Mike), Edward, Alicia, and the late Chris (Becky). He cherished being an uncle to many nieces and nephews and loved being a part of the Baldwin family. Mark attended St. Mary’s College in Winona, MN where he met lifelong friends and his wife of 35 years. He was a lifelong active St. Norbert’s parishioner. Mark coached youth hockey teams across the North Shore for many years and later coached his own children’s sports teams. Whether driving a van full of scouts across Alaska or working on Habitat for Humanity sites with the church youth group, Mark treasured spending time with his kids and showed them how to live life well. A funny, vibrant, and caring man, Mark enjoyed running, paddle tennis, and golf.

Mark fished whenever he could, whether in Canada with his father and brothers, in Wisconsin with college buddies, or at his cottage on Portage Lake with his kids. He had a joyful life, and even as his disease progressed, he stayed true to himself with dignity, grace, and above all, humor. In the words of one of his favorite musicians, now is his time to “whistle and go fishing in heaven.”

Visitation will be at St. Norbert’s Church in Northbrook on Tuesday the 25th from 3pm-7pm.
