Terminator 6 is bringing Linda Hamilton back to the franchise as Sarah Connor and now we've finally got our first look at her thanks to some new on-set photos.

Linda, who is now 61, first appeared as the character thirty-three years ago in The Terminator, but it was her transformation into the brutal warrior mom from Terminator 2: Judgement Day in 1991 that has cemented her in the minds of fans.

The new pictures show her character with shorter-cropped ash blonde hair, body armour and pump action shotgun which she'll no doubt be putting to good use in James Cameron's reboot.

The franchise previously killed off Sarah Connor's character with Arnold Schwarzenegger pulling a hidden machine gun out of her fake grave in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.

However, the new film is thought to retcon most of the the franchise's messy time-traveling lore with creator James Cameron saying it'll be a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, the director explained: "We're pretending the other films were a bad dream. Or an alternate timeline, which is permissible in our multi-verse.

"This was really driven more by [director Tim Miller] than anybody, surprisingly, because I came in pretty agnostic about where we took it. The only thing I insisted on was that we somehow revamp it and reinvent it for the 21st century."

Hamilton, who was married to Cameron until 1999, previously refused to return to the franchise. Speaking about Terminator 3 to MTV News she said: "I knew my character arc was so complete in the first two, and in the third one it was a negligible character. She died halfway through and there was no time to mourn her. It was kind of disposable, so I said no thank you."

Images have also emerged of Mackenzie Davis – who you might recognise from Black Mirror and Blade Runner:2049 – on the set of T6 covered in some unusual battle scars.

Terminator 6 will also feature Agents of SHIELD's Gabriel Luna who played Ghost Rider, while Diego Boneta from Scream Queens will also appear.

The film will mark the fourth attempt to reboot the franchise following Terminator: Rise of the Machine, which introduced the first female Terminator, Terminator: Salvation which cast Christian Bale as John Connor and tossed proceedings into the future.

In 2015, Terminator: Genisys embraced an older Arnold Schwarzenegger as a surrogate father to Sarah Connor, who was played by Emilia Clarke.

The Game of Thrones star recently said she was "relieved" that the movie flopped. Emila's GoT co-star Lena Headey also portrayed the role in TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicle.

Arnie is also slated to appear in the new movie, which is likely going to attempt to kick off another Terminator trilogy with new characters.
