It clearly says "Professional Series" on the front of the printer, which I took to mean it was a relatively heavy duty printer, but I found that to be not true. I wanted a good solid printer that would do lots of printing, using both sides of the paper. This unit came with a duplex unit to automatically accomplish the task. Sounded great, but the first thing I noticed that when using this feature, it inserts a 15 second delay between the first side of the page, and the second, which makes it useless for my purposes, as I need it to print faster. Also, the duplex unit didn't last long before it broke, so I had to put the single page unit back on. The printer works fine, and does a very good job of printing text fast in draft mode, which I use most of the time, except for pictures. The printer finally ejected some plastic parts from the output tray mechanism, so that it no longer holds one side of the paper up as the page is printing, and will no longer do the cartridge alignment when a new cartridge is inserted. Also, the black ink leaks out of the printer on the end where the cartridges rest, leaving a black mess on the table. I purchased another used one through eBay, and noticed that it had also leaked black ink in the same area. It did print a few pages though before the output tray mechanism broke, so that printer is useless. I cannot recommend this printer for serious printing.Read full review
This was a used printer. On receipt it did not print. I installed a new black ink cartridge and the printer worked OK. It did not come with any software so I was unable to check other features of the printer.

The printer is just what I am looking for in a daily use printer. It prints color and black & white almost endlessly. The cartridges are large and can be refilled or replaced for little cost. Their is no ink level indicator which tells you that you are out of ink when their is plenty in the cartridge. You can refill the cartridges and don't have to worry about a computer chip that doesn't let you do so. The printer also prints both sides of a sheet of paper saving you money. I will only buy a new printer if I feel I have money to waste on ink cartridges.
I have found all the products that I've owned in the HP 900 series to be excelelnt. The 970cxi is another example of a printer that prints all things at least adequately, text in an excellent manner for ordinary use, even in draft form, and "behaves" - it doesn't jam, ink cartridges last for a very reasonable amount of time, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to use it. It's built sturdily, still having a great deal of metal in it! I've used the 900 series for years and count on their consistency. I have the 970cxi with the duplexer unit, and I just love the "magic" of how that printer does so well with two-sided printing.
This is a overall good color inkjet printer for the money. The Printer allow your to print on various types of formats. From regular printer paper to transparencies, photo paper, envelopes, banner and even Iron on transfers. The paper tray will hold up to 150 sheets of paper and has a monthly print cycle of up to 5000 pages. Now this is not a laserjet printer but a inkjet printer which can cost a little more per page for black and color prints, unless you try to refill the cartridges yourself. The good thing about connectivity of this printer; it does allow you to interface will various devices, through either a UBS or Parallel ports. The HP 970cxi is a Good overall printer that can print on various types of platforms. With a black and white print speed of 10 pages per minute and a color resolution of 2400 dpi x 1200 dpi your print quality will be excellent. This printer would be a great buy for if you or your small business needs to print on various types of platforms.Read full review
