I bought this because I had seen a demo on my old computer (Dell XPS Gen 4) in Win XP Pro, and it was a simple game for children with cute little ponies and some nice graphics. However, it won't even start up on my new computer (Dell XPS 710 H2C) in Win XP Pro [NOT in Vista, but the old reliable Win XP]. Pony Luv errors out both in normal mode and in Win 95 or Win 98 mode (within the Win XP Pro environment). I can't even get the game to play in Parallels using Win XP Pro, on a Mac. I tried everything. No matter what I do, it won't start up. On the PC, I don't know if it's the Core 2 Extreme or the Nvidia 8800 GTX that is in conflict. But I had expected a relatively recent child's game to play on a currently available computer, without a problem. Catz/Dogz 5 still works fine, as does Pinna (an ancient game, originally written for Win 95, of "live" birds you care for each day). Sims 2 with all expansions works great. Zoo Tycoon 2, with all expansions still works great. An ancient game Babyz works beautifully. I have had no problems with any of these games. In fact, they all run better than on my old computer. It seems to me that if the all the above games work, then Pony Luv should also work. Pony Luv is a *very* simple little game -- not even as complicated as Zoo Tycoon 2. It isn't like this game is a big complicated shooter, or anything. (I know the 8800 still has some driver issues in Win XP with a couple real intensive first person shooters.) But I don't see how it could be a driver problem if all the above games still work just fine. So I am not very pleased with Pony Luv. To say the least. BTW, if you DO get this game to work on your computer, tell your kids not to bother clicking as fast as they can for a race. Save their little fingers and wrists. Clicking fast or slow, or even not clicking at all, has absolutely no effect on the race that I could see -- and I experimented with slow clicks, rapid clicks, and no clicks. Same exact results no matter what I did. Numerous races have to be run to earn money for food and supplies, so little hands could get *very* tired with all the clicking. I think asking children to click as fast as they can on a mouse is a bad thing, anyway; and it is even worse when the children believe their pony didn't win because they didn't click fast enough, WHEN IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE. Bad, bad choice on the part of the game's makers. Shame on them.Read full review
My two girls who are 10 and 8 enjoy horses and have a passion for horses! This game is great for that girl who loves horses. You can care for it by washing the horse feeding the horse and letting it go into the feild. It is like having a real live horse. You can also race with the horse and go to a store with your earrings from racing to buy things for your horse. It is a great game and helps with the dreams that little girls have of owning a horse who live without one like ours. I give it two thumbs up! www.patriarchhomeschool.com Chmielewski Family
I AM RUNNING WINDOWS XP ON MY COMPUTER. INSTALLED THIS CD AND CLICKED TO RUN THE GAME BUT GOT A MESSAGE SAYING IT WOULD NOT RUN AND I HAD TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL SOMETHING CALLED PONY_PATCH.EXE. I LOADED IT ON THREE DIFFERENT COMPUTERS AND GOT THE SAME MESSAGE AND DOWNLOADED THE "PATCH" EACH TIME SO I THINK IT'S PRETTY SAFE TO ASSUME THAT IF YOUR CHILD IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET THE GAME WILL LIKELY NOT WORK BECAUSE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD THIS 75MB PATCH. ONCE I FINALLY GOT IT LOADED, IT THOUGHT THE GRAPHICS WERE VERY SKETCHY AND JERKY LOOKING. I WOULDN'T BUT IT AGAIN, OR RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE.
