If you've been itching to play Mortal Kombat 1 ahead of its September release, then you'll want to keep the weekend free. The Mortal Kombat 1 beta has an August 18 release date and a 4pm BST UK launch time on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Running until the same time on August 21, the beta is only available to pre-order customers, which means you'll need a kode in order to start playing. To gain access to the Mortal Kombat 1 beta, simply pre-order the game from the Xbox or PlayStation Store. Alternatively, you can pre-order a physical copy from the likes of GAME, Amazon and Argos.

If you've pre-ordered a physical copy, then beta codes will be provided and redeemable with a Warner Bros. Games Account until the end of the Pre-Order Beta period by following the steps below...

• Log in to a Warner Bros. Games Account. To create a WB Games Account, visit Account.WBGames.com to create an account. To reset a current WB Games Account password, visit Account.WBGames.com/Reset-Password. If unable to access an account after a password reset, visit WBGSupport to submit a ticket.

• Once logged in, visit Account.WBGames.com/Betas and enter the code under the [Redeem a Pre-Order Beta Code] section

• Click the [Redeem] button

• Read the on-screen prompt and when ready, select [Accept and Continue]

• Users will then receive a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S code based on console preference that is only redeemable on August 15 at 11 a.m. EDT / 10 a.m. CDT / 8 a.m. PDT

• Follow the instructions on how to redeem a console code

Sadly, there's no pre-order beta period for PC and Nintendo Switch users. Likewise, fans who participated in the stress test won't have access to the Mortal Kombat 1 beta.

You'll also need a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Gold subscription in order to access the online multiplayer content in the beta.

Speaking of which, developer NetherRealm has given fans a taste of what they can expect when the beta goes live on August 18.

The beta will contain 1v1 online multiplayer, as well as a limited single-player Klassic Towers mode against the computer.

Selectable kharacters include Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Kenshi, Kitana, Johnny Cage, and Li Mei, while Kameos fighters include Kano, Sonya, Jax, and Frost.

Players will be able to duke it out in brand new Teahouse stage, as well as Johnny Cage's Mansion.
