Michael Zorc has talked to WAZ about the current transfer window and their plans for the coming weeks and months. Most importantly he virtually shut the door on the Julian Weigl rumors and if BVB are looking to sell him:

“No. Julian has a long contract with us and we have absolutely no intention of changing anything about that.”

It is somewhat surprising because there is no clear place for Weigl in the starting eleven but Lucien Favre did like to deploy him as a centerback, the Swiss coach might like to keep that option for the upcoming season.

Zorc also commented on other players like Guerreiro, “At the moment that’s an unsettled situation” and Schmelzer who he wants to keep at Dortmund despite him getting no chance under Favre.

When it come to plans for rest of the summer Zorc confirmed that BVB aren’t necessarily done but the focus will be on selling for now:

“We will obviously look to try to optimize the squad. However the bulk of the work is done. We don’t want to have an inflated squad. Now the main focus will be on selling.”

Bundesliga clubs have spent more than 200€ million on agent fees during the most recent financial year 2017/18. Leading the charge was Borussia Dortmund with a staggering 40.9€ million which is almost double of the next highest clubs Bayer Leverkusen 22.7€ million and Bayern Munich 22.4€ million. The black and yellows did go through a rebuild with a lot of transfer activity which could explain the high fees.

  • Chelsea wins the Europa League

Congratulations to Chelsea on winning the Europa League final 4:1 against Arsenal. Chelsea were the dominant team especially in the second half where all five goals were scored and deserved the victory.

After the game Eden Hazard hinted that this was his last appearance for Chelsea saying “I think this is goodbye”, the midfielder has been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

  • Bundesliga transfers

Union Berlin: The newly promoted club have announced their first transfer, Manuel Schmiedebach will join Union from Hannover 96 and reinforce their midfield and provide some Bundesliga-experience.

SC Paderborn: Paderborn have lost one of their key players from their past season. Offensive midfielder Philipp Klement who scored 16 goals in 31 games for Paderborn in the 2.Bundesliga has joined VfB Stuttgart for 2.5€ million. Despite helping Paderborn getting promoted he will still stay in the 2.Bundesliga.

FC Augsburg: Florian Niederlechner has signed with Augsburg. The striker scored just 4 goals in 24 games for SC Freiburg last season and will look to improve that tally with his new club.

Fortuna Düsseldorf: This transfer is actually not confirmed but Rheinische Post claim Fortuna Düsseldorf are interested in Neven Subotic. The ex-BVB defender would be available on a free transfer and could return to the Bundesliga.
