Shakira Wipes Her Tears And Celebrates On New Album ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’

Following

Shakira has undergone quite the personal journey since playing the Super Bowl halftime show in 2020. In 2022, she parted ways with Spanish soccer player Gerard Piqué, with whom she shares two children. Not long after that, she showed that she was coming back stronger than ever with the Bizarrap-assisted breakup diss track "Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” which broke the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was quickly surpassed on the chart by “TQG,” her collab with fellow Colombian pop star Karol G.

The string of singles Shakira has released in the past two years has culminated in her new album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, out now via Sony Latin. The title comes from her smash Bizarrap collab, and while its lyrical origin — which translates to “Women no longer cry, women make money” — is empowered in nature, the project isn’t exactly a party from start to finish.

On the album, Shakira takes time to mourn her decade-long relationship on songs like the heartfelt ballad “Última” and reflects on her love for her sons Milan and Sasha who join her on the equally emotional “Acróstico.” She also brings along some talented Latin artists for the ride, from breakout Tejano group Grupo Frontera on “(Entre Paréntesis)” to Cardi B on “Puntería.”

Shakira is back in control of her life and her career, the latter of which she confessed to Apple Music suffered partially because of the former. While she’s busier now as a single mom, she’s free to express herself as creatively as she wants, with this album being the result.

"Now I feel like working. I feel like writing songs. I feel like making music,” the Grammy winner told Zane Lowe. “It's just a compulsion — a compulsive need of mine that I didn't feel before."

In the end, she was able to rise above it all thanks to her countless supporters around the globe.

“I feel the fans have really demonstrated their loyalty and, by demonstrating their loyalty and their love, I felt so backed up," she said. "They really had my back all this time, and so I feel I owe them big time. And so I’m working my a** off because I want to make sure that I give back to them at least a quarter of what they’ve given to me.”
