Terminator creator James Cameron says it's too late, AI has taken over and we’re all screwed.

Those that are familiar with the iconic Terminator movie franchise, will know that the human race was pretty much the cause of its own downfall. Basically, because we couldn't be bothered to perform mundane tasks, we created an AI so advanced that it inevitably built exoskeleton machines to wipe us all out.

Of course, the Terminator movies are pure science fiction, however, with the real-world technical advancements of the modern era, perhaps us being wiped out by an army of T-100s might be closer to reality than we thought or am I just being paranoid? I’m paranoid, right?

As reported by our friends at UNILAD, James Cameron, who is also the director of Aliens and Avatar was speaking on the SmartLess podcast hosted by Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes.

On the topic of a Skynet apocalypse, while not being afraid of AI taking over our world, Cameron shared his concern about the potential misuse of advanced technology. “I think AI can be great, but also it could literally be the end of the world,” he exclaimed. He then went on to say how ‘no technology has ever not been weaponised.’

Staying on the topic of AI potentially taking over our lives, Cameron added: “do we really want to be fighting something smarter than us that isn't us in our own world? I don't think so.”

I mean, it sounds really far-fetched that AI could take over the world and when the original Terminator movie was released in 1984, it was purely a nightmarish fantasy.

However, technology is advancing at such a rapid pace and I just hope I’m not one that a naked Arnold Schwarzenegger travels back in time to terminate. That being said, that does sound like a cool way to bow out.
