Römerinnen Zwei Novellen
Die beiden Novellen, die Stendhals Ideal in der arte di novellare so recht repräsentieren, den kahlen reflexionslosen Chronikenstil, sind um die gleiche Zeit, um 1829, wie sein großer Roman »Rot und Schwarz« entstanden. Beide gehen sie auf tatsächliche Geschehnisse zurück. Beider Heldinnen sind Schwestern der Mathilde von La Mole, gleichsam Vorstudien. Stendhals »Vanina Vanini« hat Paul Heyse den Stoff zu einem vieraktigen Trauerspiel »Vanina Vanini« (gedruckt 1896) gegeben.
