I, Bella Fisher, am absolutely WINNING at FAILING at life.
1. I once got my tongue stuck to a box of Calippos in a supermarket.
2. I accidentally called my geography teacher Mum. Twice. He wasn't impressed.
3. I'm a geek. And not in a geek-chic kind of way, but in a secretly-caring-about-failing-maths-and-science way.
4. I always fail maths and science.

So it figures that when I meet the FITTEST BOY IN THE WORLD, Zac, I'm doing solo star jumps. While dressed as a cereal box.
(NOTE TO SELF, fancy dress = HE-WILL-NEVER-EVER-FANCY-ME dress.)

Now I've got to somehow persuade Zac to come to prom with me while avoiding my evil ex and dealing with a secret so mega-awks I want to Ctrl-Z my brain... What could go wrong?
Oh yeah, that's right. Absolutely everything.

This was fun, for a while. Then the constant acronyms for everything in new kidspeak and the constant putting down of Bella as a hopeless young woman, by herself and mostly everyone else, just got a bit too much. Disappointing as it started out well.

'I wanted to stab her in the eye with my fork. But then I’d have an eye on my fork, and that would probably put me off my lunch.' Stuff like this works for a while, but not throughout.

2.5, marked down as I struggled to finish.

The cringe was real, but I loved every second of it. Thank goodness there are two more books in the series because I need to be in Bella Fisher's life again!

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher. This in no way impacted on my view.

This book would have been perfect for me, when I was younger, and, you know, actually a teenager. In it, Bella, a 15 year old, has accepted that her life is 'super awkward'. When she should be at her best friend's birthday party, that they've been planning for months, her mam drags her off to a caravan park, in Wales. She thinks her life has ended. When her annoying ex-boyf texts her a picture of him kissing someone - someone who may or may not be one of her besties, she definitely thinks her life is over. However, she finds a major hottie, Zac, and that just about makes up for everything.

When she gets back home, she and Zac remain in contact - but the problem is, he thinks she's 17, like him. Her relationships with her best friends sour, and she tells the whole school - or at least her year group - that Zac is her boyfriend, and will be going to prom with her. The only problem, he lives miles away, and no one believes he exists.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick, and fun filled read, perfect for teen UKYA audiences. Bella is someone who will be relatable to the majority of British teens, and reading this definitely made me think I was back in year 10. Her best friends were amazing, and even when they weren't talking, they still stood up for each other. Like many contemporary YA books, there are periods of angst, and times where you can't keep a smile off your face. Considering Bella is 'super awkward', she has 3 love interests - no love triangle/square in sight though - so I think she has it sorted.

I'd definitely recommend this book to lovers of UKYA contemporary fiction. The perfect escape from the bores of school - just in time for the new year.

Super Awkward is THAT book I wish I had when I was a teenager. I was not a good teenager, and it’s so good that there’s more books out there that show that being awkward is okay, and being a geek is okay, in fact call me biased but I’d ALWAYS rather be an awkward geek. #REPRESENT Super Awkward is perfect for Geek Girl fans, The It Girl fans, for anyone who likes a quick, warm read that will make you laugh your back off (a lack off?????).

My only issue with the book (except for a few messy wrong words used – breaks instead of brakes, wrap instead of rap) was the fact that at the start of the book, Rachel, Bella’s friend, turns 16. What’s the problem with that, you ask? Well, they’re in year 10. PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE. Unless she was held back, which is never mentioned. But if you’re fifteen, going on sixteen, you should be in year 11. It’s a slight thing, and one that people may not even notice, but I’m so picky (and I don’t care). It didn’t ruin my enjoyment, but you leave school at 16 in the UK ergo Rachel could not be in year 10. That’s all.

Apart from that slight hiccup (which people will tell me to get over, I AM I SWEAR), I loved the book. I loved Bella. She resonated with me so, so much. She will with many girls, who feel like being awkward is wrong, and anytime Luke came into a scene I cringed, because he was awful. I kinda wished he’d got some come-uppance, because he was truly terrible to Bella, bordering on bullying, and I genuinely still have no idea why he acted the way he acted. He needed a punch in the face, and I will happily have delivered it. He grated on my last nerve, and Bella really needed to do a Hermione and punch him, like Hermione did to Draco. It would have been soooooooo satisfying.

While the BFF-ship between Bella, Rachel and Tegan hits some bumps, I liked how real their friendship was – when you’re that age, everything is blown up, more than it is, and it was nice to see that they broke up and made up, like all normal teens, but they were always there for each other, proved by an epic – EPIC – food fight. And I loved Bella’s sister Jo! What a nice sister to have. And Zac! *Happy sigh*

I really, really enjoyed this book, it was so cute, so quick witted, I loved Bella Fisher, and I was so sad to finish her tale, although what a tale, and I loved the idea of Pssst, only because I am horrifically nosy (what can I say, it’s a Brit thing???). This is the perfect read, it should be in every school, read by every teen because they’ll relate so much to this book. For anyone who has ever felt even the tiniest bit awkward, this book is for you!

Biraz Confessions of a Shopaholic biraz da Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging karışımı bir kurgusu vardı.

Super Awkward was the perfect book to kick off Project Destroy Stacey's Reading Slump. 15-year-old Bella Fisher is a not-so-academic rendition of one of my favourite funny protagonists in YA, Harriet Manners: geeky, witty and awkward, but failing maths and science spectacularly. She's been cruelly taken by her family to Wales instead of to her best friend's house party. (*admits that as an adult she'd much rather go to Wales*). Bella's even more of a grumpy pants when her ex-boyfriend sends a photo of him kissing a mystery girl. Until she meets (i.e. knocks over) a gorgeous boy called Zac. And tells everyone at school that he's her older boyfriend and is taking her to prom. Awks.

Super Awkward is a really fun, quirky story, full of teenage romance, devastatingly embarrassing moments and learning to lean on your best friends. I'm all about stories of female friendship - one of the most important things in my own life - and so it was encouraging to see that Rachel and Tegan were always mostly around to support Bella. If you loved Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging, you'll love Bella and her crazy teen voice!

I also reviewed this book over on Pretty Books.

I’m pretty sure Super Awkward is going to make it onto the permanent list of books I recommend. Already loosing count on how many people I’ve told they need to read Super Awkward, and it’s only been a short while.

Bella Fisher is a relatable narrator who made me laugh, giggle and actually side-stich loose it on more than one occasion. I’m just leaving the clue: classroom / art / desk.

If Super Awkward wasn’t written so well and Bella not the character she is, then this book would have a real danger of being slapstick without any emotional centre. As it is, Beth Garrod has managed to make Bella someone you care about. So while some moments might seem a little ridiculous, because it’s Bella, you completely believe this is happening.

Basically, Super Awkward is the book you pick up when you need some laughter in your day.

I'd give this a respectable 3.5 stars, but I'd warn anyone thinking about reading this that it's quite immature, but not necessarily in a bad way... this was really funny and very relatable from a teenaged girls perspective, but it was a tad too young for me...
I actually liked the characters, the scanrios play through a lot if issues that any of us at that age can relate to, although it is way OTT

Bella is super awkward and not in a good way. She can’t keep a boyfriend, she has a super hippie mum and prom is on the way. When she meets Zac things start to brighten…or do they?

This book was ridiculous. Earlier this year I posted a review about My Summer Of Love And Misfortune and the reviews shamed the book. BUT THIS WAS EVEN WORSE. I hate Bella. She’s annoying and cringey and the second hand embarrassment kills me. Her friends and family are decent but the plot was appalling and I just think it was such a waste of time. The book picks up a bit at the end but it is really rubbish. Don’t read this book if you don’t have to. 💕

Super Awkward starts with fifteen-year-old Bella going on a holiday to Wales with her mum and older sister Jo. Whilst she’s there (having the Worst™ time ever) she meets Zac. When he says that he is seventeen, Bella tells a little white lie about her own age. As Zac and her lies catch up with her after she’s back at home, she tries to navigate the mess that is her life.

This book made me feel sixteen again and it spoke to my own super awkward heart. Everyone will be able to relate in some way to at least one of the teen dramas that occur in Bella’s journey through Year 10. It’s been a while since I’ve read a story that so accurately depicts the life of a fifteen-year-old in a typical British high school. Everything from the dialogue and the characters to the wild situations they find themselves in is funny, heart-warming, and believable.

Bella herself is a hilarious character and her awkwardness kept me entertained throughout the book. I also loved her friendship with Rachel and Tegan. The three of them, though they do have their rough patches, provide some great moments and even when their friendship is tested, they’re always there to support each other in the end. Her relationship with her sister was also up and down but I loved their bond and the way the two of them worked through their problems together in the final few chapters. Also, Bella’s mum is brilliant. As cringey as it must have been for Bella, I completely loved her hippy ways.

Romance drama comes in several shapes throughout this book, mostly in the form of Zac and Luke. Whilst Bella is coming to terms that her relationship with Zac isn’t the love story she hoped for, her ex-boyfriend Luke is causing her even more trouble. Luke isn’t a likeable character and I spent most of the book rooting for Bella to get her own back on him in the best possible way. Also, whilst we’re on the topic of romance, can I just say how pleased I was that there was no tension-filled love triangle in this book? Even though there is more than one love interest, the absence of Bella being torn over having to choose between two boys made Super Awkward a way more realistic and relatable read.

This is a wonderfully current story with plenty of pop culture references to giggle at. Though this focuses on young teens in the highly drama filled world that is high school, the humour can appeal to a wide range of ages. It’s that timeless type of funny that even when older, you can remember your own life at that age and laugh. If you’re looking for a cute UKYA read with loveable characters, then Super Awkward is the perfect choice.

Review first published on my blog: http://www.pagetostagereviews.com/201...

Super Awkward focuses on teenager Bella Fisher who has all the problems any other girl her age has – school, friends, boyfriends – with the added issue that she is super awkward and so she always ends up in the most embarrassing situations possible. This is especially evident when it comes to the boy part of the teen problems...

Of course Bella is wearing a giant arrow made out of cereal boxes (representing none other than One Direction) when she happens upon a hot boy. And it only goes downhill from there. Quite literally, when Bella falls on top of said boy. And that isn't even the worst thing that happens to her in the book, trust me.

The best part of this novel was Beth Garrod's hilarious writing style and the crazy situations she put her main protagonist in. This is one of those books that has a lol-per-page and if you're in the mood for something to cheer you up during these dark days, then Super Awkward can definitely help you with that.

However, while Beth's writing was fab, I found the storyline less interesting. Perhaps I'm too old to appreciate it fully (the protagonist is a teenager after all and I'm in my 30s, eek!) but I quickly got bored of her romance woes. Furthermore, a lot of Bella's actions, while landing her in funny situations, were pretty stupid on her part and they became quite predictable after a while.

That isn't to say that I didn't enjoy any it because I did really like Bella's friends and her sister Jo, but for the most part there wasn't too much substance to Bella's own storyline and I could take or leave the romance, of which there was a heavy focus within the book. The one exception was Bella's resolution within the previous to last chapter, which was inspired and cracked me up a lot. She really went up a notch in my estimation after that.

Super Awkward is super funny at times but also somewhat immature and superficial. If you love cheesy and predictable rom coms then you'll probably fall head over heels in love with Bella and Zac, but unfortunately it didn't quite work for me.

(I may sound extremely judgemental and rude when describing this book and I really don't mean it. I appreciate any author's effort in writing books but this really didn't live up to my expectations at all and I am very dissapointed.)

I picked up this book in a school book fair and read the blurb. I really didn't find any other book that I wanted to buy so I decided to get this one. And oh my god do I regret it!! I read the first few pages and hated it. It didn't make sense, sounds like it has been written in a day, immature and extremely boring. I even tried reading it again to give it another chance but it was still the same boring book all over again. This book is just sitting on my desk waiting to be read. It's the type of book that you read and absolutely hate.

Not only has this book made me relive too many cringeworthy childhood antics ( and old crushes) but at least now at the age of 32, (thanks to Bella Fisher) I can look back and laugh.
This is a great teen book which hooks you from the get-go and makes you genuinely laugh out loud.
But what I also like, are the nuggets of wisdom it drops - like being truthful even when it hurts, and the importance of friendships.
Great debut from the author! Can easily see this being made into a film in the coming years.

**NB, I bought this for my 11 year old God-daughter, but so glad l got go read it too.

In a year with some superb YA contemporary fun reads, this is maybe the only one with has made me laugh on literally every page! Bella is a hilarious MC and I love her relationship with her 2 best friends, while the romantic aspects are really well-handled too. Additionally, much of it is set in school and the scenes here felt especially vivid and true to life. An awesome debut; definitely hoping for more from Beth Garrod and Bella in the future!

Our main character Bella was hilarious. I found myself relating to a lot of scenarios that she found herself in, particularly the family trip to Wales and her mum having a cardboard cut out of a member of Abba in the bathroom (my dad had cardboard cut outs of Star Wars characters in the living room and I’m fairly certain that Darth Vader is still in the loft)! Having such a relatable character meant that I could breeze through the story quite quickly, feeling invested in Bella’s journey and what situation she was going to end up in next. The rest of the gang were likeable and good friends, but I didn’t feel as connected to them as I did Bella – probably because of the fact that they were definitely nowhere near as embarrassing as poor Bella and I!

Garrod had me laughing out loud every few pages; her story and characters really captured the worries and thoughts of a teenager very well and definitely brought back some memories I had perhaps tried to forget about. There was a realistic portrayal of teenage friendships – the gang fell out, made up, fell out and made up again, which was definitely my experience in secondary school!

While I think I’m a little older than the intended audience, I thoroughly enjoyed the book nonetheless, and 16 year old me is raving over this book! Super Awkward was a fun filled, well paced, plot driven story that kept me wanting to read on; I finished the book in basically two sittings.

Super Awkward is a book that tries to be super cool but is also at times super confusing.

It all starts with a girl named Bella who is considered weird and tries to become an ordinary person because she has fallen in love with a boy named Zac. She tries to be someone who is not herself, just for him to like her. She changes the way she looks, how she acts, and tries to get lower grades to be cooler, but everything results the opposite way..

What makes the book interesting and fun is the main character. Bella is a hilarious character and her awkwardness kept me entertained throughout the book, though it was a bit immature, but not in a bad way, just because Bella acts like a 7 year old.

But sometimes the book is confusing.

This was a funny and teenage related book. This book would be really helpful for teenage girls who are not confident about who they re. It shows that being awkward and different from the others is okay.If you love that teenage ( growing up and discovering what life is really like ) sort of book, this is the perfect book for you!

Something that I really liked about this book is that from the beginning it already hooked me. When I first started reading it was kind of boring because it was really awkward the travel with Jo (Bella’s sister) and her mum, but when she met Zac everything changed. Now Bella’s in a moment of her life when she is getting to know herself even more, so many things change, especially with Zac…...

This book clearly wasn't for me, it was too teeny-bopper and made me cringe a lot, with way too much capitalisation and ?! after anyone saying anything, it was so hard to read at times.
1 star is because it did make me laugh occasionally, like maybe 6 max, and the other is because of the tiny glimpses of an actual storyline between Bella being a doofus and going on massive brain farts and mashing words together all the time. She did not come across as a 15 year old, she was more 13 with a ridiculous fascination with the wrong things.
The plot veered massively off Zac and ended up being mostly about her friends and Luke, who really should have been called Puke because he was a huge douche and the things he said and did made me wanna hurl. But the bits with prom and making up with her friends were kind of cute and it did shock me a few times with the big twists and the fact that MIAGTM was cute at the end made up for the massive lack of plot through most of the book. It could have been better but it ended alright so I'll forgive it for it's massive fault - Bella being super cringe and weird-not-in-a-funny-way, so I'll say it was okay and forget I actually read this...

I quite liked this book. However it was quite immature.... which some people might quite like. It was an easy book to read and no hard language. It is fun to read as the characters and the situations in the book are very relatable. It will make you laugh and cry, give this book a go you may or may not like it!

I found this book really hard to get into, the fact that I was without glasses for the majority of the time reading this book didn't help. Also the extensive use of things in brackets that were three lines, I did find a bit confusing.
The storyline was actually really lovely even though it had a really happy ending, not that I don't love happy endings, but you could tell from early on how it would end (very predictable).
Some of the characters weren't explained very well at the beginning like the character Luke and some of the situations weren't fully explained so I did struggle to keep up with what was going on at some points during the book. Nonetheless it was a good book and I would recommend it to people who like high school happy books.

(4.5 stars) Okay, so even though I'm probably a bit older than the age range for this book. It took me back to a time that almost made me feel like this book was my biography. People who are 'super awkward' will relate and love this book so much! I laughed and cringed and laughed and cringed again!

Bella is such a lovable character as well that's it's just such an easy read. I'm not giving it five stars just because I wished a certain little detail turned out differently but it was still amazeballs. Thankyou Beth for taking me down memory lane!

If you are that person that ends up in awkward situations this is definitely the book for you! It has a few twists and turns but I think this is a book everyone will love 😌

An amazing book Beth Garrod has put together, shows us the awkwardness of the life the character has. I found myself often nodding my head in agreement with some of the cliché moments we've all tried and failed in an awkward mess. Hoping there'll be a second!

Bella could probably be my not-so-real person that I'm telepathic with.

Is that a thing?
Eh.

But it's so good, I highly recommend to anyone who gains happiness from reading other people's awkwardness!

Promised a lot but delivered partially. Great in bits, but surely no-ones life is that chaotic? Well written, Garrod has a great turn of phrase and I reckon she may have an absolute corking tale in her.
