Golden Wings & Pretty Things

I don’t often deny myself. If I want it, I’ll find a way to obtain it, not caring what lines I have to cross.
She is the exception.
Indie is forbidden, a toy that isn’t mine to break but she is a pretty thing I’m eager to play with.
For months I’ve tried to resist and keep my distance.
But it would appear the fates are finally on my side because now she’s willingly come to me.
She’s in trouble and I’m the only one who can help….that is if she’s willing to pay the price.
I want everything, and I’ll accept nothing less from her.
She walked into my life on the arm of my son, but I intend to keep her for myself.

Golden Wings & Pretty Things is an age gap/boyfriend’s father romance that includes themes of coercion, cheating (not on each other but with each other), and adult language/situations.

🔱 Updated 5/24/22 for the full story. Original review reflected the prequel that was released as part of the Bully God anthology.

Equal parts steam and suspense, Golden Wings & Pretty Things is the twisted and oh-so-hot introduction to the Fractured Rhymes series.

Indie Riverton, meets her boyfriend, Callan Banes, while attending classes at Olympic Sound University, a prestigious private college. Over the course of the summer as their relationship begins to fizzle, other aspects of her life begin to fall apart as well.

Desperate as her future begins crumbling before her eyes, she seeks assistance from the only person in her life who may be able to help her before she loses everything.

That, ironically, happens to be Astor Banes, Callan’s father and president of the college. A calculating and patient man, Astor unabashedly manipulates Indie’s predicament to his benefit.

“Let’s get something straight, Indie. For the duration of our arrangement, your private moments are no longer your own. They now belong to me, just as you do. Your body, your orga$m$, and your fcuking tears are mine. As are the remainder of your firsts. I’m going to take each one of them and claim them as my own.“

Never intending their arrangement to be more than temporary, when feelings emerge, Astor must altogether change his strategy.

“This whole relationship started with my desire to have her please me, and now, the roles have been reversed. I want to please her. I wanted to ease her constant and unrelenting worry. I wanted to be the reason she didn’t frown in her sleep any longer. Simply, I wanted to be the reason she smiled.”

I absolutely loved e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. about this story. Astor is the perfect combination of alphahole and caretaker. Indie has an enviable inner strength and is mature, well beyond her years. While the age gap is definitely at the higher end of my comfort zone, it wasn’t a prominent part of the story and their personalities made the gap seem less significant. We got a few breadcrumbs about future stories in the series and I am stoked to see where KK takes us! Love! Love!! LOVE this world she’s building!!

Whoo! this was a short steamy ride and I loved almost every moment of it!!!

This story got
-Boyfriend’s dad.
-Forbidden age age.
-Student x dean.
-lots of dirty talking.
-Angst
-Be my secret slut/whore🔥and many more.

This didn't felt like a novella more like a short novel. I mean the story had depth in time, and we also see some character developments and lots of angst.

Um idk why in between the steamy scenes alot of time things got very cringy idk😭 I just cringed alot but other then that this was very interesting!!!

What I really liked was that we get to see few other characters book teasers that I am sure would appear in the series.
And I am so excited to read abt Rafferty and Posie's story next!!!

“I’m going to take you so fast and hard you will still feel me inside of you for days. Every time you move, you’re going to be reminded of what I did to you. That I’ve stolen you and claimed you as my own.”

Boyfriend’s dad, age gap, student x dean, degradation…… this book was wild lol

Well that was delicious and spicey! Golden Wings and Pretty Thing is hella yummy. This fast-paced, forbidden age gap novella entrances. Dirty talking, powerful alpha hero, a lovable but life-weary heroine, and a scandalous "arrangement" - it's the perfect recipe. Chock full of kinky fun and a dirty talking, super possessive delicious daddy, and I'm am here for this!

Despite the novella length, Kayleigh imbues quite a bit of story. We have some well constructed and substantive characters, and a lusty chemistry that does a bit of evolving. I only wish we had a bit more to them- which, to be fair, is pretty much always my novella experience. The ending just felt a bit abrupt with a seismic shift in their relationship to boot, and there's a lot of time devoted to future characters (hopefully). It's exciting for the future of this world and series (this is a series starter after all), even if I wanted to play around a bit more in this delicious dynamic Kayleigh's created.

But, this is certainly Kayleigh's hottest and most delicious story to date! The angst and taboo are so compelling, and if this is the testament of what we have to come as Kayleigh writes more and more contemporary, I'm SO excited for it!

Tropes:
- age gap (23 yrs) ~ 42 & 19
- forbidden romance
- boyfriend’s father
- cheating (not on each other but with each other)
- coercion + blackmail
- forced proximity (roommates)
- insta-lust
- 🦋dirty talk🦋

POV: first person - dual

Type: interconnected stand-alone (book one)

Indie is on the verge of losing her scholarship and goes to the one person she believes can help her, the president of her university who also happens to be her boyfriend’s dad. But when he presents her with two solutions, one seems to blur the lines between not only superior and student but as his son’s girlfriend.

↓*may contain spoilers*↓

I didn’t feel any connection between the characters. Maybe bc a huge portion of the book was focused on the “arrangement” but I felt nothing between them from the beginning to end.

The love was definitely not there. Not even a smidge. For a long time, he never cared about her well being, only her body and what it could do for him. Everything in her life became an inconvenience to their “agreement”.

Maybe I’m used to heroes who are not only possessive but protective over the heroine but this man wasn’t protective, which in turn meant he lacked care.

Any time something “romantic” happened, there would be slight time skips (ex. 2 weeks then 3 weeks, etc.) right after so we don’t get to actually see the “love” progress but are rather told of the “good” things that happened in the time frame we didn’t witness. I just wasn’t convinced they loved each other.

The smut was good but I like romance not just sex.

Golden Wings & Pretty Things was a delicious boyfriends dad romance. Astor was manipulative and a very naughty boy. Indie was sweet and a perfect match for Astor. Now while I really enjoyed this one, I thought Callan's reaction to it all seemed too accepting but I guess he had his own reasons. Overall, this one was very enjoyable, and I look forward to reading book 1.

Golden Wings & Pretty Things was my first read from this author! I honestly just heard the tropes for it (age gap, ex boyfriend’s dad) and jumped in! 🤣 This ended up being okay, it was a little hard to get into at first but I did like it more in the second half once feelings actually got involved!

Astor meets his son’s girlfriend, Indie, at the beginning of summer and tries to keep his distance from her because he’s immediately wanting her. By the time fall comes around, Indie’s relationship with her boyfriend has fizzled out and now her future at the prestigious private college is at risk. She ends up coming to Astor for his help, since he’s the university’s president. He says he’ll help her if she agrees to his arrangement: for the remainder of the school year, she’ll be his. At his beck and call for 8 months, including moving in!

“Mine to call upon, mine to have when I please, mine to touch in any way I see fit.”

Like I mentioned, the first but came off a bit insta-lusty, but that is just how their arrangement was set up to be. Eventually real feelings do get involved and I liked seeing how they fall for one another. He helps her get her cherished horse back and we do see him with birds as he trains golden eagles/falconry. The forbidden part of her dating his son when they first get together was kind of light/didn’t become a thing, as their relationship had already fizzled out naturally and both found someone else and no one was upset. 🤷🏼‍♀️

This was pure smut and little to no plot. But as a sucker of forbidden romances, this was a guilty pleasure that I enjoyed 😂.

This novella introduced us to whom I believe will be the subjects of the books of this series. I am interested enough to pick them up when they come out.

This is the second book I’ve read by this author and again I was NOT disappointed. Forbidden romance is one of my favourite things to read, add in the fact it’s a boyfriends dad trope and I was sold before even reading the blurb.

“𝑴𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒖𝒑𝒐𝒏, 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝑰 𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒆, 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒐𝒖𝒄𝒉 𝒊𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒚 𝒘𝒂𝒚 𝑰 𝒔𝒆𝒆 𝒇𝒊𝒕.”

I fell in love with Astor Banes from the moment he appeared, he is truly intensity personified. He knew he wanted Indie from the first time he saw her, but since she was his sons girlfriend he obviously couldn’t do a damn thing about it, that is until Indie finds herself in some trouble which gives Astor the perfect opportunity to have Indie exactly where he wants her…. writhing under him while he brings her immeasurable pleasure 😏.

“𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒉𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝑰 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅𝒏’𝒕 𝒇𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖. 𝑺𝒐, 𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍 𝒎𝒆, 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒚 𝒈𝒓𝒍, 𝒅𝒐 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒓𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒓𝒖𝒏 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒎𝒆?”

“𝒀𝒐𝒖, 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒆, 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒃𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒖𝒑 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝑰 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆.”

This book was so freaking good, I was completely engrossed throughout, I love this authors writing style. Astor was the epitome of an alpha who definitely met his match in Indie Riverton, and every time he called her pretty girl I swooned. The steam was chefs kiss this man’s mouth should come with a warning. Definitely recommend reading.

Ahhh there is just something so damn good about a boyfriends/ex boyfriends dad romance. It truly is my favorite trope, if not just the forbidden romance of it all!!

The chemistry between Astor & indie was freaking HOT & I felt so many ✨things✨ while reading, which is a big win in my book ESPECIALLY when it comes to spicy books! Even though Astor was uptigth & hard on the outside, you could see he had the biggest heart after Indie made her way into it!! So swoonyyyy.

We love daddies in this house.

If you like forbidden romance and age gap this novella is a must!!! Boyfriend's father done to perfection, this steamy book had tension coming out of the pages and I freaking loved it. So fun and easy to read, I didn't wait for it to end. Now I can't wait for the full story. Astor is just everything!!! This was my first time reading Kayleigh King but it definitely won't be the last.

Astor and Indie were SPECTACULAR!!!!! I loved them from the very start and could NOT get enough!!!! Age gaps are one of my all time favorite tropes to read and Kayleigh King ROCKED it!!!
Astor loved showing Indie that her time with little boys were over and she deserved a real man now. And not only did he show her but he shows US too lol
I really though throughout the entire book I was going to HATE her ex boyfriend, Callan, who is also Astor's SON. But towards the end he showed me that he wasnt really THAT bad and he actually has more to him than meets the eye. I cant wait to see more from him too.
The sex and foreplay scenes in this book not only made me squirm in my seat and had me overheating but made me NEEEEDING MORE!!!! That is exactly what this author is great at doing, leaving me a panting mess and flipping the pages saying "more mommy! I NEED MORE!" Overall, this book was a massive 5 stars and I am ready for this series to continue! WHO WILL WE HAVE NEXT?

⚠️Check triggers⚠️

Indie's life is on a downward spiral after her mother and new stepfather take everything away from her, including the horse that her dad left for her when he passed away. With nowhere else to turn, Indie goes to Astor Banes, her boyfriend's dad, and the president of the university she attends, for help. Astor offers to help her on one condition: she's his in every sense of the word for the rest of the school year. Indie accepts his offer and things heat up between them. It was just supposed to be an arrangement, but it turns into more when they realize they won't be able to walk away from each other when the year ends.

I officially identify as Astor Banes' pretty girl and I couldn't be happier about that. I really enjoyed this book and this couple. Astor is brooding and demanding, but he has moments of softness with Indie. He made me melt when he helped her with horse. It was so sweet. I loved his obsession with her and how much he wanted her. Astor would scorch the earth if it meant keeping Indie safe. Their arrangement adds to the forbiddeness of their relationship and definitely upped the ante in the spicy scenes. Speaking of spicy scenes, the ones in this book are hot. There's some under the table action while at family dinner with her boyfriend, who is Astor's son, that I really enjoyed. There's an office scene that gave me 🌽 video vibes and I was dying in that scene 🥵

Spicy, yes, and simply good. Rather wordy though, so much to describe one event, I was easily able to peruse ahead and know exactly what was going on.

Great characters, a Dom/ sub relationship, age gap, teacher-student forbidden story. Daddy Astor is enthralled with his son’s girlfriend and is figuring a way to make her his.

Indie wants to be a nurse practitioner and ride her childhood thoroughbred, Jupiter. After her beloved father’s passing she’s left with an unloving mother and a terrible stepfather, both spiteful and vindictive. As villains, though, the story didn’t make much sense as to why her mother and new husband Ivan hated Indie so much. The intensity of their animosity and reasons for their behavior made little sense to the actions they took other than enmity, and hatred or resentment weren’t enough.

Side characters sparked some interest including Astor’s mafia brother and the rich and resourceful, bad boy student on Astor’s campus.

Overall, I like the pace with which their attraction built and was acted upon, the deal Astor came up with to win Indie, but the story was just ok. Some intensity was missing, e.g., the forbidden nature of their relationship could have been explored and put at risk — teacher-student and son’s former lover, some jealousy / rivalry; Astor’s mafia darkness; why the mother and stepfather were after Indie other than weak hatred. The story lagged unnecessarily from over descriptiveness. Five pages to describe the hospital setup and Astor’s watching over Indie, for instance, was too much. Writing like this made the story needlessly long and distractingly boring. Still, good with execution issues.

Age Gap, Forbidden Romance, Boyfriend's Dad, and twists are just a few things in this novella. Definite must read part of the Bully God anthology.

If you're looking for a story that draws you in and makes you question your morals and where you draw the line on right and wrong, then you just found it.

This book has a dark theme and questionable motives with some serious melt your kindle moments in this little novella.

I absolutely love this author and she never disappoints and this new story is pure perfection of depravity at its best.

Yes there might be some alluding to cheating per se but it's done with finesse and you won't feel like it really is, as the story progresses. I can say this story has a lot of things going on with a ton of twists that I really need more of! The story pulls you in immediately and you find yourself questioning what is happening and if there is way more to just a bargain being made between a powerful man and a very young naive girl.

This is definitely a must read because this author has a knack for giving you some of the best unique storylines and her characters have a depth that compels you to want more of their story. I for one will be grabbing this new series once it is out. I love a good mystery and throw in some hot steamy scenes only makes it better. Highly recommend reading the start of a truly amazing storyline!!! Definitely would give more than 5 stars on this one!!!

"ᴘʀᴇᴛᴛʏ ɢɪʀʟ, ɪ'ᴍ ɢᴏɪɴɢ ᴛᴏ ᴇᴀᴛ ʏᴏᴜ ᴡʜᴏʟᴇ."

Omg Kayleigh King 🔥
Her story for this anthology was loosely based off of Zeus and my 𝘨𝘰𝘥 does she pull through - Astor Banes is every bit the powerful, almighty Zeus.
Indie Riverton's life is turned upside down. The decision she's forced to make leaves her with her boyfriend's dad as her 𝘴𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘳.
This was hot, taboo and forbidden and I can't wait to get more of their story!

Be sure to check out the Bully God anthology coming out February 22nd, 2022 that will include Kayleigh King's Golden Wings & Pretty Things as well as shorts from Megan Brandy, Ashley Jade, Shantel Tessier, Tracy Lorraine, Sam Mariano, R. Holmes, Lucy Smoke, C.L. Mathews, Sara Cate, Rachel Leigh, Veronica Eden, Holly Renee, Becca Steele, Lindsey Iler, & Laura Lee.

Golden Wings & Pretty Things is an emotional and spicy novella. And I think it's the start of an amazing new series from Kayleigh King.

Indie and her boyfriend Callen are slowly drifting apart. The spark has now really gone out, but neither of them really part.
When Indie's life changes drastically thanks to her mother and new husband, Indie seeks help from Callen's dad, Astor Banes.

Astor is willing to help Indie, but demands something in return. Well, you should read the rest yourself, it's absolutely worth it.

In the end, of course, as is to be expected, attraction turns into interest and, as a result, emotions. The two experience a lot together also THANKS to Indie's mother.

Read if you like:
- "touch her and I will unalive you"
- age gap / boyfriend's father
- steamy 3/5 🌶
