Way back in January, Jon wrote a story about an Antiques Roadshow segment featuring a veteran in North Dakota who found out that the nearly unworn Paul Newman Daytona he bought for $345.97 back in the 1970s is now worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. He literally hit the floor when he was told what he had, and the watch community did much the same when they saw what happened. This week, we're lucky enough to have Antiques Roadshow executive producer Marsha Bemko and appraiser Peter Planes join us on the show. These two were responsible for finding and valuing that Paul Newman, and they're kind enough to share the entire behind-the-scenes story of how it was discovered and why this is definitely in the pantheon of all-time Antiques Roadshow finds. We get into a few other watch-related highlights, and both Marsha and Peter offer broader insights into how Antiques Roadshow is produced, why it's so compelling, and what they're hoping to find next.

Following that conversation, I speak with our fearless leader, Joe Thompson, about the state of the watch industry, what exactly is going on with Baselworld, and the constantly changing trade show landscape. It's no secret that the COVID-19 pandemic is impacting literally every facet of life and every industry imaginable – and the watch business is no exception. Joe's been doing some serious reporting and fills me in on what he's learned. Likewise, he's been following all the various twists and turns in the trade show drama that has unfolded this year and offers up a very interesting perspective on what's happened, why it's happened, and what the future might look like.
