In Short

  • Fight Club is a cult classic helmed by David Fincher.
  • The film starred Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter.
  • It released in cinemas in October, 1999.

You would not expect one of the world's most good-looking men to deliberately injure or physically 'distort' (for lack of a better word) himself. But Hollywood heartthrob Brad Pitt did exactly that for a role.

BRAD PITT'S PREP FOR FIGHT CLUB

According to ScreenRant, the actor got his two front teeth chipped by a dentist as a part of preparation to play soap salesman Tyler Durden in the movie Fight Club, based on a novel of the same name by Chuck Palahniuk.

This level of commitment by artistes for their role is not unheard of, but is definitely rare for someone who is as commercially viable and globally popular as Brad Pitt. After all, one of the first calling cards of a mainstream movie star is his face.

However, Pitt was done and over with his 'pretty boy' phase. He wanted to experiment and play roles no one would conventionally associate him with. During one of his earlier interviews, when speaking about Fight Club, the actor had said, "It is about these two guys who start this amateur boxing league for underprivileged youth, and the woman who comes between them. But we twisted it a bit."

If you have not watched the David Fincher directorial, then Pitt's quote -- which has now become viral on social media -- is as good an introduction as any.

ABOUT FIGHT CLUB

For the unversed, Fight Club revolves around Edward Norton's unnamed narrator who is tired of being boxed by society's unending expectations of what he should do with his life. But things take a decidedly dramatic turn when he encounters Brad Pitt's soap salesman Tyler Durden. Together, the two open an underground fight club and things get murkier and more entangled with every passing second.

When the movie was initially released, Fight Club tanked at the box office and acquired a cult status after it released on home video.

On the work front, Pitt was last seen in the polarising Babylon and is now looking forward to the release of David Fincher's The Killer.
