FOUR YEARS AFTER FINISHING A PERFECT 166 ZERO ON THE HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING MAT, NASH HUT MAKER, IS DUSTING OFF HIS SINGLET IN LINCOLN. WE ALL MAKE NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS AND, UH, ABOUT LOSING WEIGHT AND MOST PEOPLE DON’T. RIGHT? OR IT’S SHORT TERME AND HE LOST 45 POUNDS AND BASICALLY ABOUT FIVE WEEKS. NASH HAS A LOT OF COURAGE. AND YOU KNOW, WE LOVE IT. THE SPORT FOR NEBRASKA, FOR ME, BETWEEN THE FOOTBALL NUTRITIONIST, WRESTLING, NUTRITIONISTS, THEY’VE BEEN UNBELIEVABLE AND SUPPORT ME THROUGH LOSING THE WEIGHT, GETTING KNOCKING THE RUST OFF, GETTING IN SHAPE. IT’S MADE IT SUPER EASY TO COME IN AND JUST WORK AT IT EVERY SINGLE DAY AT EVERY MATCH. HIS FOOTBALL TEAMMATES AND COACHES PACK THE DEVANEY CENTER TO CHEER HIM ON. WE GOT TO MAN. WE KNOW HOW HARD HE’S WORKING. UM, WE JUST ENJOY WATCHING HIM COMPETE AND HE’S A LEADER IN THE ROOM AND WE’RE JUST HERE FOR SUPPORT. IT MEANS SO MUCH TO HAVE THOSE GUYS IN MY CORNER AT, UH, ALL THE TIME. NO MATTER WHAT I’M DOING. UM, ESPECIALLY IN THE DINING ROOM. WE ALWAYS PREACH THAT WE’RE. I MEAN, WE’RE A FAMILY IN THERE. IT’S A IT’S A BROTHERHOOD. SO WHY DO IT? WHY MAKE THAT LEVEL OF COMMITMENT? I’M DOING IT JUST BECAUSE I THINK IT’S GONNA MAKE ME BECOME THE BEST ATHLETE I CAN BE. The Polar Bear lost 45 pounds in preparation for his Nebraska wrestling debut.

Huskers defensive lineman Nash Hutmacher made his debut for the school's wrestling team on January 6 vs. Wyoming at heavyweight, pinning Mason Ding in 2:07.He notched another victory on Sunday against Purdue.The Polar Bear dropped 45 pounds since the end of football season in preparation for his return to the mat."I've just been having a blast with it. It's been so much fun getting to know the guys in the room, getting to be a part of this awesome program," he told KETV.Hutmacher wrestled in high school, finishing a perfect 166-0 in high school and becoming the first four-time heavyweight state champion in South Dakota."Nash has a lot of courage and we love it," said Nebraska wrestling head coach Mark Manning.At every match, his football teammates and coaches pack the Bob Devaney Center to cheer him on."We got to, man," said Nebraska football defensive line coach Terrance Knighton."We just enjoy watching him compete and he's a leader in the room and we're just here to support."When asked why he's embarking on this new journey, Hutmacher responded, "I'm doing it because I think it's going to make me the best athlete I can be."Click here for the latest headlines from KETV NewsWatch 7
