Gedenkort Jüdischer Friedhof Mittenwalde

The Jewish cemetery in Mittenwalde was built at the end of the 18th century, after the moats had been filled in between 1785 and 1790. A mortuary was present in the cemetery. In the Nazi era, the cemetery and the morgue was destroyed in 1938. In 1945, six graves with grave stones are said to have been available. Since about 1948 the area was used as a garden. Since 2005, there have been intensive efforts to make the cemetery worthy again.
  
2013/14, the cemetery was prepared as a memorial. Surrounded by brick baskets, the fields of the cemetery property with feather grass, lawn and twelve natural stones made of Silesian sandstone trace the contours of the historic resting place. The steles are offset along the walkable middle path.

The Jewish cemetery Mittenwalde, which was transformed into a memorial site today, was inaugurated in the Mauerstraße on 09.09.2014. On the same site was formerly a Jewish burial site, which was disgraced during the Reichsprogromnacht 1938 by the National Socialists. The reopening as a place of remembrance against anti-Semitism and for the victims of National Socialist rule, the memorial is to build a bridge to the modern, vibrant Jewish life and the former cemetery to return a part of his wretched dignity. On the grounds of the cemetery, visitors can find out about the project and the history of the place on three information boards.

Daniel Botmann paid the highest appreciation to all those who participated in the research of the former Jewish cemetery in Mittenwalde. For many years they had worked on several visions with the project, said the managing director of the Central Council of Jews in Germany on Tuesday in Mittenwalde, Brandenburg. Not only would they have researched Jewish life in the Dahme-Spreewald region, but they also wrenched it from oblivion.
