Since CYRES Consulting joined Var Group in 2022, significant changes have taken place. This period has been characterized by strengthening synergies, alignment of strategies and exploration of new opportunities.  Nowadays, everyone recognizes cybersecurity as a fundamental element of every product's lifecycle. Because of its ongoing evolution, which includes new technologies and, at the same time, new risks to take into account, we believe it is essential to keep the focus on supporting clients in not only achieving regulatory compliance requirements but also in countering emerging threats to ensure sufficient protection and security in their embedded systems. So, while we continue to give our best by offering advanced and strategic consulting services to guarantee cybersecurity of tomorrow’s mobility, we are also establishing new R&D collaborations, leveraging the competencies of the Digital Security team, to further develop our capabilities in supporting clients with our leading expertise in fields like IoT/OT systems (IEC 62443), digitally-enabled products (Cyber Resilience Act) and providing security services for fleet protection (V-SOC) and secure production logistics (Key Lifecycle Management). Our focus on cybersecurity has now been reinforced thanks to the arrival of the CYRES Consulting's new Managing Director, Nicola Bressan. We would like to reiterate his willingness and commitment to be at the heart of our business initiatives, thanks to his experience. Those responsible for cybersecurity in vehicle development are often surprised to learn what is actually required for the success of cybersecurity in vehicles/cars. Roughly three years after its official publication, #ISOSAE21434 has evolved from an initially unclear compliance requirement into an important driver of quality in vehicle development.   Manuel Sandler, Partner at CYRES Consulting, spoke about precisely this in a live webcast together with colleagues from BMW and CARIAD as part of Bayern Innovativ GmbH's 'Secure connected vehicles' event series.   Hundreds of industry representatives took the opportunity to understand why #cybersecurity in vehicle development is always a task for which individual answers need to be found. From the perspective of cybersecurity in vehicle development, there is (unfortunately) no one-size-fits-all approach. This becomes clear when you think about the 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝘆𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:   ⚙️ The respective system level: vehicle, feature, component or a specific hardware or software element - What are we talking about?   🛞 The different functions within the vehicle, with very different protection and security requirements   🔐 Resulting in very different impacts, for example on safety or privacy - but risks from a cybersecurity perspective also go beyond this, for example in terms of reputational/financial risks   🚗 Different areas of application in which a component is used by different OEMs, in different vehicle generations and different vehicle models   🌏 Sales markets, which are also different, with local regulations and requirements coming into play in each case.     At the same time, the developing and manufacturing 🏢 organizations behind this are of course also very different in terms of size, structures and processes. Werner Schimanofsky, Head of Business Development at Cyres Consulting Austria, recently participated in the 107th Digitaldialog hosted by Silicon Alps Cluster, focusing on "Digitalization in E-Mobility." Werner Schimanofsky's presentation at the event emphasized the critical need for robust cybersecurity measures in the rapidly evolving automotive landscape. He discussed current automotive cybersecurity standards and regulations, stressing their importance in ensuring the safety and integrity of Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs) and associated infrastructure. From protecting vehicle data and communication networks to defending against cyber threats, to the pivotal role of collaboration between industry stakeholders, policymakers, and cybersecurity experts, there are many pending tasks in effectively addressing these challenges in the automotive industry. If you think only of cars when it comes to automotive cybersecurity, you could well be mistaken. It is no coincidence that we regularly receive enquiries and exciting consulting mandates from neighbouring industries and disciplines. This was the case recently with our client Brose E-Bike, which belongs to Brose, one of the world's largest automotive suppliers with several million electric motors delivered every year. The task at Brose E-Bike was to develop a new complete system for an electric bicycle. By taking #cybersecurity requirements into account at an early stage and, above all, holistically during development, the colleagues saw (in a very forward-looking manner) a possible bridge to the proven methods of cybersecurity-compliant development work in the automotive industry, such as the application of the #TARA method according to #ISOSAE21434. At the same time, the e-bike system naturally has completely different cybersecurity requirements than a car or truck simply due to its architecture and the given possibilities of physical access.
