I am proud to announce the successful completion of my first Master's thesis project of Behavioural and Cognitive Neuroscience (BCN ReMa). Titled 'The effects of the dominance hierarchy on (chronic) social stress, behavior, physiology, and neurobiology in Wild Type Groningen rats,' the project was received with an 8.5/10, and the quality of my scientific writing with an 9.5/10. During my time at the Groningen Institute for Evolutionary Life Sciences (#GELIFES), I gained invaluable insights into the scientific framework in which new #animalmodels are tested and improved, as well as the impact of social #stress on the brain and body. I like to thank Prof. Dr. Bauke Buwalda for his supervision and PhD candidate Miguel Puentes-Escamilla for his readiness to help me navigate any challenges I faced during the project. With this achievement, I am also pleased to announce that I will be starting my second internship next week in the multicentered HAMLETT-OPHELIA project (Iris Sommer Group) at the UMCG. This study aims to investigate the risks and benefits of discontinuing #antipsychotic medication in first-episode #psychosis patients using multiple #neuroimaging techniques. I will be contributing to the study by interviewing patients and assisting with Diffusion Tensor Imaging (#DFI). The question of whether white matter alterations in language circuitry of first-episode psychosis patients can be linked to impairments in syntax production will be central to my thesis. I am eager to see what this exciting project holds!

On the 23rd of May, this year's edition of the FSE Career Day will take place. During the entire day, students will have the opportunity to prepare themselves for what is waiting for them after graduation: from multinationals to startups and from industry to academia. All sorts of parties will be present to showcase what the career path of a FSE student can look like. The day will start with an opening talk given by an engaging speaker for all different science and engineering disciplines. The opening talk is followed by two parallel sessions, the first talk being more business-related and the second more research-oriented. During the remainder of the day, students can sign up for different cases to experience what working in a certain industry is like. Moreover, several shorter presentations and workshops are given to provide students with the soft skills needed to become well-rounded young professionals. Afterwards, a closing session in the form of a networking social provides students the opportunity to contact everyone present during the day in a more informal setting. Vacancy Alert💼! PhD position Neurogenesis & Neurodegeneration Project: Unlock the early-life pathological imprinting of Alzheimer's disease via lifestyle The Neurogenesis & Neurodegeneration laboratory led by Dr. Evgenia Salta employs transcriptomics and other molecular and imaging approaches to map the cellular and molecular complexity of the adult hippocampal neurogenic niche and to dissect the biological pathways that are deregulated in Alzheimer’s disease. The aim of the project is to define the cellular and molecular effects of early-life dietary and microbial components, physical exercise and cognitive training on the CNS pathological imprinting and AD development later in life. The recruited PhD student will focus on effects related to neurogenesis and neuroinflammation using mouse models, human iPSC cultures and postmortem human brain. Are you interested? I am pleased to announce that my thesis on ‘Alterations of the histaminergic system in the dorsal lateral prefrontal cortex and anterior cingulate gyrus in patients with schizophrenia’ is received with an 8.0/10, and my oral defense with an 9.3/10. Despite being a remote internship, I am grateful for the insights and skills I have learned as a data analyst at the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience. I would like to express my gratitude towards Dr. Ling Shan and Prof. Dr. Dick Swaab for their supervision and guidance. With this, I have successfully completed the BSc Bèta-Gamma (major in Neurobiology) at the University of Amsterdam (Universiteit van Amsterdam) with a GPA of 7.5/10. I’ve grown to appreciate the additional value an interdisciplinary research setting provides to complex problems and am eager to start my next interdisciplinary challenge. With an ever-growing interest in the evolution, function, causation and development of behaviour, I will continue my education with the two-year MSc Behavioural and Cognitive Neuroscience at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. I am excited to see what the future holds!
