"The Internet is full of AI dogshit" will probably be the title of the 2023 entry in the history of the Internet. Generated content is already diluting the usefulness of the web as a source of information. https://lnkd.in/gpnyrjA7

I am personally quite afraid for the future of "content" on the web, afraid of an AI hellscape that will undo some of the biggest achievements of the open web: finding information. Apart from news and journalism (which is bad enough) when you put this in context of games: I am really wondering how long it will take for game wikis or websites that publish guides/help content become irrelevant. Because users have to sift through garbage content that an AI scraped from incomplete Reddit posts or just made it up entirely. Which in turns will make communities more important, where users share information with each other – or point to the reputable sources with low SEO rankings. My best guess is that closed communities (like Discord) will become even more important in the future, as they provide a safe space from the content hellscape. Leaving me with only one conclusion: it becomes even more important for companies to run and support their own communities – so they don't get eaten by the AI content hellscape. What do you think? Am I just alarmist, or are the worst days for content yet to come? This article is a good summary of what happend so far: https://lnkd.in/ep9WDSQ2

I think we soon find ourselves in the dark ai forest. Where - on the surface - there will be mainly ai dogshit and promotion blabla content governed by ai bots. While we humans go underground in closed walled gardens probably similiar to the picture down below.

There are correctives. When we think about the future of something we usually forget to include them. This is why I think that there will be several corrective forces. And I hope that they can help to push the ai bullshit away.

There was dogshit before AI too. Quality content will prevail - and now its time to achieve that.

I agree, but 2024 will be that year. Folks are just learning how to generate this crap at scale
